Well said Boog in both posts!! You're a true gentleman and scholar! I hope to meet you face to face one day.
Lt. Leaphorn! It is because of you that I had to think twice about my decision. W/S did 'feel right' as Boog stated. They were great with me and very honest, but life comes first and I honestly can't afford the $5k to get to school only to wait more than a month before seeing a penny. I read the Prime posts and was very impressed. I'm comforted in the fact that I'll have a lot more hands on, aided training and I guess in a way, I have you to thank for that!

Wow, great to know I can have a positive effect on your considerations Lynch. Interesting comments Boog & Lynch about the "vibe" you get from Watkins/Shepard. I have not contacted them, but since I am committing - or trying to commit - to the less expensive or no money up front route I think I would rather not know. LOL. I am expecting to learn something official from Prime today.
If Prime doesn't work out then I will likely go back to Stevens - though they have not officially approved me - and if try to work from a TN address so I can go to Steven's school rather than RDMSTR. That way I won't have to shell out $$ up front and if I stay with Stevens we'll be all square in a few years.
However things work out I do appreciate this forum and posters such as yourselves who take the time to explain their observations and thinking.
It would be really funny to end up in a class together somewhere...
Boog..?Lynch..? It's Leaphorn... -
Well, my rectruiter just called with the news that I "can start packing my bags" for Springfield.
This is good news but I will not be able to leave until after the weekend of the 25th at the earliest. So I've got some time to put things in order here and do a little studying for my permit.
This is big. This is life changing. -
Nah.. I'm just gunna call you Lieutenant! Sir!

That being the case, we might well indeed be in class together, even though it's a short one with Prime. I have a tentative start date with Prime of Sept 29th. If my back surgeon's office will get off their ### and complete the forms from Prime, I will know soon. Everything is approved pending them sending my release. That shouldn't be a problem since I've already gotten his release in writing, but Prime wants him to fill out and initial their company form. My recruiter told me she will have my final approval (or, God forbid my disapproval) in two days after I get all the medical forms in.
So, Lieutenant...... In the event Lynchmob can't start until October, would you like to room together? I think Lynch is planning to go later by about 2 weeks....he's got some conflicts preventing him from going earlier. -
Well Boog, I have a drs. appointment on October 1. So, unfortunately, my arrival will not coincide with yours. Also, I have a potential business opportunity I will be discussing with a friend today. Not really thinking it will pan out, but you never know and it would keep me local - so wifey would be happier (she who must be obeyed).
Hope I meet you when I am out there, but I expect we will cross paths sooner or later if we are both working for Prime.
I really enjoy reading your posts. -
There is a guy on this site by the name of Nawlins who might room with you.

back, to funny, i havnt seen nawlins on in some time, i wonder if he became a man and gave up? or his wife put her foot down, im not sure what the deal is, but with all the bs between nawlins and myself, i truly hope all is well with him, so if ur reading this nawlins, please let us no everything is ok, people are wondering about the " dead thread " since you have stopped posting.
for you guys that have tried to get in with w.s im sorry to hear that things couldnt work out in your favor to get on board with w.s. however, if i were to leave w.s today, ( which im not ) prime would be my next place to work.
i dont agree with w.s not assisting with the hireing of new drivers, it sucks to be honest. i no they say its because of the people of the past who took advantage of the program that messed up for, what i think could have been 2 great workers here at w.s, i dont no if they will ever go back to their old ways.. im really hoping they do at some point, maybe when our country gets back on track.
i really hope you guys all do good at prime, or stevens or where ever you end up, and hope to run into you at some point.
iv always liked prime, always liked talking to prime drivers, and most not all but most of them seem pretty happy at prime. best thing about prime is they always have shinny trucks and trls, i think it looks good!
best of luck, and hope to read about ur exp with prime. ( maybe on the prime thread tho..?_)

I appreciate the good wishes. At this point, anything could happen as far as where I end up. I have a Sept. 29 tentative start date, but Prime is making me really jump through hoops getting medical releases. My start date is pending their receipt and approval of those releases. I could get pushed back a week if they don't get them in time, or it could be middle of October, I have no control over it. I've had 2 back surgeries, and one wrist surgery in the last 4 years, all of which I'm 100% healed from and have releases for. But they want the doctors to sign a 4 page document that is all job requirements, and write a letter on their personal letterhead detailing everything you can imagine. Even if I get all that too them and get a start date, I could probably still fail the physical sor something I suppose. I'm in the best shape I've been in since I was about 25, but they don't know that. I can outperform most people who've never had any surgery. I play very competetive hardball here in Dallas, and at one time was a world-class fastpitch softball pitcher. I can throw a softball underhand fastpitch in the mid-to-high 90's mph. It just chaps my ### that I see all these morbidly obese truckdrivers at the truckstops who couldn't bend over and get out of their own way, and here I am in pretty good shape for 46, and I have to move mountains to get in. I really don't like the discrepancy in standard from company to company. Prime did tell me they are now enforcing the Body Mass Index (BMI) of 39. I'm 10 points below that, but I bet you if I went to any random truckstop, I would find that 25-30% of the licensed and medically approved drivers are over 39 BMI. I'm also college educated, not that it matters, but at least I can think and problem solve.
That is one very appealing thing about WS. They have you do all the medical stuff in your home area, so when you get the approval to start with them you truly are good to go. You're not going to show up and get a bus ticket home for taking a non-prohibited med just because it's their company policy (like I did at Stevens). WS wants me to get a physical and do their agility test with a physical therapist, and with the releases I already have, I'm good to go. So, I could end up at any of the three I've mentioned, or none of the above. The only thing I can tell you is that I will not stop trying until I am behind the wheel with my CDL. Period. -
^^ Atta boy Boog, don't give up. And hey if you did end up at Prime in the middle of October, that might not be such a bad thing
