Watkins Shepard Safety Interview/HPE EXPLAINED!

I'm in missoula now, they say at least until Monday night.

 

We're not going to make it until Monday night/Tuesday. *wail* I want to meet you all (or, in the case of Scotsman, harass you again)!

 

harass huh??? lol well give and you shall receive....and what is this amazing google thing that the guy sitting next to you is talking about...like soo better than facebook...go...just turn your head to the side and ask him....i am intrigued as i quite like FB (thats facebook....not flatbedding!!)

 

Just Called Kristy (Recruiter) [i think thats her name] To figure out what i have to do to get my foot in the door; So hopefully Y'all can expect me to join the family around February(my 21'st Birthday)

Right Now, I'm getting all my Job History together (As that will be the hardest for me to do)... and Contacting the EDD office here in California to see if the state will pay schooling for me (I'm gonna try to get into United Truck Driving School as that is just down the street),

Jan 10th is where I may be enrolling into UTDS.

I might have around 700$ to spare for orientation and # of Days I am out + what ever W/S Gives me

I exercise a lot and lift a lot (I help my grandparents run a self storage and help customers move into their storage units when asked) plus running is always a favorite of mine - I don't think the physical test type deal won't be a problem at all.

I have little to none experience with trucking although I have backed up many many many (did i say many).. 5th Wheel Trailers/RV Trailers/Toy Trailers In very tight spots when Customers again ask they need help.

I have my grandpa's and one of my friends United States Truck Driving School Handbook and paperwork so i can study that (It's only 3 years old) for regulations and what not.

It seems that not only technology is old today and new tomorrow but as well as trucking regulations are old today and new tomorrow ...

The only hard part is the employment as I have nothing but under-the-table work and as well as Volunteer work; and of course College... So I've Been asking around the forums (1 or 2 areas) how would i go about verifying and authenticating such ?

I'm excited, I'm nervous, I'm Worried

 

Hey gt go to your college records dept and get a copy of your schedule or transcript along with a statement from your volunteer organization highlighting your service times and have them notorized. The main thing is making sure all your contact info is correct. Make sure your phone numbers for references are right. Let your contacts know ahead of time that someone may be inquiring about your "employment". Good luck hope that helps.

 

I've been thinking; Should i go to their school instead?...

Just to confirm;
1) Get my transcript from my college and schedule that i had
2) get a notarized statement saying that i helped out the organizations with service times included as well as contact numbers
3) Make sure that all my refrences and supervisor numbers are correct and valid
4) Notify my supervisor(s) know they may be contacted


I have a few questions regarding W/s As well;

a) I live in Riverside, CA (Southern California) Where would my orientation be? and as well How well are my chances of good home time? (I don't mind being gone a month at a time just curious)
b) After Orientation What happens then?
c) How long do i have to be out with a trainer?
d) What type of trucks do W/S have? (I'm looking towards either the flatbed or van doesn't really matter which ever is better hometime/miles/mula.
e) Does W/S Allow Friends or Family Aboard the trucks? (Can i have a rider) and/or can i have a pet aboard? (Like a hamster/gerbil)

a) most likley Missoula, we did have a guy in my class in Conover that is out of Santa Fe Springs. don't know about hometime i live on the right side of the country, i'm out of conover
b) you get a truck and go to work
c) no road trainers at W/S, after orientation you are in your own truck
d) van (few refers) and flat, heard you have to have 6 months to go flat
e) after 90 days with safety's aproval

 

don't think you need 6 months for flat atm.. its more of a truck & trailer availability issue

 

I went to UTDS. Everyone in the classroom and yard is very nice; the office staff, less so. IF you have any problems and have to retest on anything, stand your ground. You are paying for the option to stay until you get it down and don't let them intimidate you.

On the more positive side, say hello to Robert for me. I owe him some pictures of Montana...

Go to the DMV and get a copy of the commercial motor carrier guidebook (free). Read that. Although the handbook may be useful, the official DMV book is the one with the most current and accurate answers... and stuff does change.

If you're still young and you have college to show, just list a reference for volunteer work and college and leave the under-the-table work off the application. If you've already turned it in with W/S, then talk to your references for the jobs and ask them if they'd be willing to be an official reference even if you were never an official employee. Many will.

Good luck to you... be excited, control the nervous (my biggest downfall), and dump the worry... nothing to worry about.
