My husband and I have decided to change careers and we have been accepted into Watkins & Shepard. We will be attending the Jan. 2nd class. We drove down to Missoula and met everyone and took a look around, passed our physical and drug test. Moved most of our stuff into a storage shed and made a room in his parents house. We figure why pay rent when we will only be home 3 to 4 days out of the month. We are both scared and excited about the whole new career thing, but we have one part of that licked. We have been working together for a while now, so being confined in a close space 24/7 will not be a problem.
I have been reading and really enjoyed this thread so I figured we would try to keep it alive![]()
Have a great Christmas everyone and talk to you later

Hey maggz, welcome to the board and this thread. I will be in the Jan 2 class too. I used to live in Montana, Clancy and Corvallis. I have driven before, but been so long I decided to go back to school and get a fresh start. I have been a copier and printer repairman for the last 10 years, and definately ready for a change. Look forward to meeting everybody and getting started. Merry Christmas

Those of us that have been following this thread would like to get more information from the 20 or so that have attended the W/S training in the December graduating class.
-
Well if you go to the previous page I think I summed up a lot of stuff. What else would you like to know?
-
Yes, you summed up your experience but I would like to find out how Sal and some of the others liked the training.
-
I would LOVE to get in with
Watkins shepherd, But two drawbacks so far, I took my PDI-CDI school in South Bend IN with 154 hours last July, and Watkins don't have them listed as one of their schools, and 2, I live in N. Michigan....
If there is anyone that has the inside push to get me accepted with them.... Let me know.

Thanks Hop I appreciate the info. Yeah my recruiter told me 1 day orientation in Missoula then out with a trainer. She said I would probably be running a load to WA or CA or something. ???
I'm okay with whatever though, makes no difference to me. I would be happy as heck to stay in a hotel everynight...lol -
B-rad ....
You really want to know how school was .. do ya ??? Well I'm glad I didn't know what I was getting into or I most likley wouldn't have signed up. There is so much more to this truck driving buisness than I ever would have thought. It's been forty years sence I've sat in a class room, that being said. Constant math and other paper work, I was pushing a melt down at times. Lots of after class\weekend home work and driving pratice.
The four weeks of training = six .
It was an experience i'll never forget glad i did it and "REAL" glad it's over.
All the instructors and the other students were great people and for the most part helping each other.
All and all It was harder for me than I thought it would be ( but I made it ) and i'm happy with that.
From my experience at W\S school you get more than a CDL . Sal -
Congrats Sal!! Though it was harder than you originally thought I'm glad you saw that as a 'positive' and got through it! I'm really happy for ya! See ya out there!
