ya our satilite system picks up anything tranmitting on 141.7 (if i remeber correctly)

unfortunatly 25% of our calls turned out to be stupid pilots that had a hard landing and didnt check there radio to see if they set off there ELT, and so we get called out and find it sitting at the airport or in a hanger somewhere lol. Made for good practice though :biggrin_2559:

An ELT transmits on 121.5, I used to keep my 2nd radio tuned to that so I could pick up someone's emergency signal if necessary...

One time it came in handy was when I was flying from Jacksonville, FL to Houston, TX at night, heard a lady crying over 121.5 that her throttle had stuck and she couldn't figure out how to land it safely without shutting off the engine only giving her one shot...I troubleshot the situation and finally talked her down using the mixture to lower the rpms enough to land...She wrote a letter to the FAA and I got me a little certificate for my wall from it! :biggrin_25519: I should have landed, I probably could have got more! :biggrin_25522:

How does income tax work for truckers, that get around to virtually every state? With W/S based in Montana, would I be paying MT income tax with my home in WY which has none?

    Thanks,

No, you pay your state of residence income tax plus federal income tax. Example, I live in CA, worked for WS, based in MT. My check stub had CA state tax taken out as well as federal. So, if you live in a state that has no state income tax, you pay no state income tax....

    heard of what? Practice ELT's?

Well unless you were training to find downd aircraft you probably wouldn't have hear of them lol. We cant use real ones or it will trigger the Satilite system and piss everyone at Maxwell Airforce Base off as they would have to deal with it until it was found and shut off.

And for practice Missions, what I would do is, after school on a friday I would go out and hide it, like one time I hiked up Mt. Mansfeild (the biggest mountian in VT) and put it at the tree line at the peak called the "chin". And the practice mission didnt start until 0800 saturday. So that would be a LONG time to have a real ELT going off....Distracting the system.

Need a little help. I am torn between W/S and Wel. I like both equally, but for different reasons. My only concern with W/S is not having a trainer to show you the ropes and nuances of the real world - things that can't be taught during the 10-day orientation. I know that I would never allow a new officer to hit the streets without passing a 3-6 month field training program. I can imagine a nephyte trucker could easily become overwhelmed.

Also, do you know if either of these companies allow firearms? I am sure they don't since it's the industry norm. I am a retired LEO and have the authority to carry in all 50 states and US territories and would like to know if there are exceptions.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to add that Roxy and Dar are great!
