Wow i am impressed already! Faxed in that 15 page application and 15 minutes later Shawn calls me--very impressive--asks me a few questions and says he will get right on it! :biggrin_25517: I should hear something within a day or 2 he says -- so wish me luck! (God knows i will need it to get through those weird tests) Makes note--no smoking before the physical! :biggrin_2559::biggrin_2559: Lets just hope i can make it to that part! Wish me luck!

Thanks Dance for all your helpful info!

You're welcome, and Shawn is quick so he shoud get back too you soon.

Don't be afraid to call him if you don't hear something in a timely manner (couple of days). Had I simply sat and waited, I would not be here.

Long story....maybe I'll share it to the entire board some day.

If you get past the physical, the rest is easy.

Don't hold me to this. But, I think they require 90 days on VAN. Unless you have prior flatbed experience.

Most our flats, get the luxury of a 13 speed gearbox too.

Calling a recruiter, can get you better answers on this one.

Well I have just finished my 2nd day of the 30 day class that started on the 1/28. We were driving around the terminal on the first day and did runs to Superior all day today! I am really impressed at how much we (the other 6 students and I) have progressed in such a short time. Don't get me wrong...you can hear the gears grinding in Idaho! But my trainer has allot of patience and we are making progress already. I chose this company to start my driving career after allot of research and it is the only one I applied to. I did chose Watkins after reading Danc694u's posts among other things and so far so good.
I was asked if I had any interest in running flatbeds by my trainer today and he said that he did not believe that it would be required to have 90 days under my belt first. He did say that he believed there is an additional 2 weeks of training for flatbeds and that the man to talk to is Dick. I will keep posting about my Watkins experience and I must say that the drivers and the other company staff have been very helpful and generous with there time and knowledge and Danc694u is a great example of this.

Yeah Dan, I heard that too. I graduated at the end of November and Dick (instructor for the flat bed class) was specific in mentioning during our class that after 90 days in van, we could ask for flatbed training. They don't have a specific schedule for the class, but when there is enough interested drivers and openings in flatbed to match, they hold a 3 day class in Missoula. I gather it mostly has to do with securement and tarping and equipment knowledge and such.

Hey there, I'm western regional and on my way home for some much needed time with the family. I will have been out for 16 days once I reach the homestead and will have about 6700 miles. Not too bad for just being in the west and dealing with snow almost daily.

Thats the only down side I can see to running for W&S, the almost non-stop snow driving during the winter in the mountains of the west.

(Friend of mine complains daily about chaining & unchaining)
