They had an avalanach come across in front of them and close the road. a dozen or so sat there on th road all night waiting to get out of there. before and durng night another avalanch hit the truck in front of the guy telling the story I heard. It pushed his tractor onto the edge of the road but it was okay. then another one hit the truck behind him which was the watkins truck, but it was okey. Then the next one hit watkins full n the side and pushed him down into the river.
Not much you can do when you can't go forward or backwards

Thanks for asking. Yes after getting my body back 100% with the help of a good Dr. I passed all the testing plus DMV and have the DOT Physical paper and the DMV permit in my pocket.
I put a web site up to list trucking Companys that Descriminate against age. Plus alot of links to get help from the agency's that care.
I think they would of been a good company to work for and I enjoy following the thread with you all who made it. -
Any updates from new W/S graduates as to how their new life on the road is going for them.
-
Things are going. LOL we are having trouble adjusting to sleeping while somebody else drives... and omg, highway 40 in New Mexico sux
But all in all we are learning where everything is located and getting used to driving. We think we might be a little dehydrated. Its amazing how much you have to drink when you are driving a truck. Also we think the elevations that we are traveling thru might be affecting us. I think we will get used to them, just dont want to disappoint the company
Besides that.. truckin is cool. We really like it and hope to do it for a long time. While we are on the road we are always talking about how we would or wouldnt want to live in this or that state. BTW its amazing how much stuff you can fit in one of these rigs.

You may be dehydrated. I see lots of truckers when I go to the truck stop to fill up, and they have a big thermos of coffee. Not that anything is wrong with that; its just that I don't think the caffeine helps you stay hydrated as much as plain ol water. I've also seen a few other drivers with multiple thermos'. Actually I myself bought a large Stanley thermos, the green metal one, about 2 months ago and have used it quite a bit. The only problem is that the regular black coffee is messing me up with the caffeine and I can't find a good smooth decaf either.
I notice when I don't drink for a while, I feel sick...just rather punky in general. I then go and get some water in me and by then Im feeling pretty good after a bit. Sometimes if Im really punky, I will go and buy some gatorade, original style...and mix it half and half with water and chug it that way.
So lately, what I've been doing is collecting some 1 liter pop bottles, then I fill em up with water and take them with me on the road. Alot cheaper than pop. Also, if you like something sweet, go to Wal Mart in the powdered drink section and you can find those individual serving packets for kool-aid or hawaiian punch. Those are meant for 20oz bottles, but they work pretty well for the 1-liter bottles.
Lol yeah some people are pretty creative. Fortunately I don't go OTR as Im home daily but I keep thinking to myself that in these trucks with the standard sized sleepers, one is always trying to think of space management to fit more goodies in there. Being an inventive person myself, I keep trying to think of ways to add extra stuff to the truck. For example, a little thing the size of an existing storage section next to the bed that can double as a sink, a 1 coil stove, desk...etc all in one. I also have an idea for a shower as well. Lol I wish I had some money to develop this stuff. -
Good to hear from you Maggz, I've been wondering about you two...
I was thinking about teaming myself (so I could do less LTL crap) but was worried about being able to sleep while the truck was rolling down the road...
As for the truck holding alot, it's a good thing with all the stuff you guys have! LOL I'm sure the crock pot is getting used...Did you install a garbage disposal and kitchen sink yet?

I hate hearing you say they discriminate against age when I see older drivers that work for us all the time (upper 50's and over 60's). Your claim has absolutly no merit whatsoever. Jsut because they turn down co-signing for you, it must be age discrimination? Bah.
If it was truly age discrimination you'd be in court instead of crying about it on a website. -
Well things as a "solo" driver have been pretty interesting as well. I just finished my first month and ran 10,000 miles, during that month I was at home for 4 days and sat at least 4 days with layovers, so all that considered, I think I did pretty good. Learning some of the "tricks" helps alot. The fridge/microwave/tv/ and inverter setup is working like a champ, I hardly spend any money on the road at all. Maggz, it was good to see you and Anthony the other day. Talk to ya'll later.

Good to hear it's working out for you Wingrider...! I'm seeing similar numbers myself. I did get a couple LTL furniture runs with multiple stops, can't say I'm a big fan of them though, they seem to take alot of time, eating away at the mileage and you only get a small supplement. Hopefully those will be kept to a minimum. Though you get compensated nicely for the staples runs...
