Just went by the Santa Fe Springs yard on the way home, why are there tractors lined up and down the street? That many at home this weekend or no freight to go any where with?

Can't answer that one for you. It's still early on a Friday night. SFS will send some out late tonight. OTR and Regional drivers that are loading out of the terminal usually can't get their loads until after 1:00 am
Others, may or may not be dispatched out saturday. While others may have a load that doesn't require them to leave immediately.
Last couple of times I was there, I planned for a reset.
Besides...thats a small yard considering the total number of trucks we have. And nobody wants to park within a 100 yards of a unit with a Pony Pack APU
But...they could all be stranded there for the next week...I dunno -
In my opinion, freight seems to be picking up. In the last 6 weeks, I havent sat even one day waiting on a load. I did sit for breakdown but what can you do. It seems that some dispatchers are more intune to what is going on that others, by that I mean. You send a "daily check call" through the Quallcom every day, but when you are "empty and avail", some dispatchers already have a load for you, while others seem totally surprised about where you are and that you are empty, so thats when they start looking for a load. Thats my frustrating part.

I actually find it amusing at the same time.
Walk into terminal...then look at the expression on their face as they say "What? We weren't expecting you for 2 more days?"
Well DUH !! What the hell was I even thinking sending you those daily check calls....with my ETA clearly stated. -
I'm a Sac guy too. Ran the Western area at first now going East when I can. Not many drivers complaining latley about miles so thats a good thing. Hopefully that will keep up. Anyway good luck with it.

Hey folks;
Have sent all needed paperwork into Matt Grandy and am waiting on word if I be going to the Nov 24 30 day class. Have already got pre-hired by Millis but am not going to make final decision until I hear from WS. I live in Chattanooga TN. so I would be working out of the Dalton GA. terminal. School locations favor Millis as their located in Cartersville GA. But my priority is which company offers the best long term potential. Anyone run out of the Dalton terminal? -
I will be in the Oct. 20 class for 30 days.

Finally saw my first W&S truck running through Sacramento today, lol.
Hey Sal. Yea, I plan on running OTR to get started anyhow. Figured being on the west coast i might get a few loads through Sacramento and get some extra hometime.
Do they let you take your truck home when you are on hometime? or do you have to park it down at the Modesto terminal?
If all goes well, I will be there on November 3rd for the 10 day.
Thanks Danc, I definitely plan on going OTR to start out with and hope that I can get some good miles to start as well. -
Being where you are, expect to get caught in "the loop" IE Western region, for a week or more when you first get dispatched out. Maybe you'll get lucky and nab an eastern run out of the gate though.
While I do like this company very much. Some things appear to run bass akwards compared to others. Other companies can't keep you off the east coast for more than 3 or 4 days. W&S can't seem to get you to the east coast for more than a few days a month. The majority of drivers would say thats a good thing. I just find it strange, maybe it's just me.
Sal,
Good to hear your miles are picking up. Wasn't sure if you had quit, or were just running harder. I hadn't seen you post here in awhile. -
Does W&S have a drop yard or anything near the Sacramento area? Or is the Modesto terminal the closest thing to here?
