I'll second that, The only times I have really had to sit for too long was during the holidays. I get along with all the dispatchers I have dealt with and I generally tell them that I would rather not sit for the weekend, I don't care about where I go, just would like to drive rather than sit.
I was in Helena where some other drivers were complaining about miles (one was offered a low mile route, I believe he turned it down) and the fact that they were going to sit there for the weekend, I dropped a load around 2pm on friday and got my next load out of there by 4pm. It may have only been 450 miles, but it's better than 0, and I had another load waiting for me when I got to my drop.
Don't get me wrong, I have my issues with dispatch, but if you treat them how you would want to be treated it's amazing what can happen
Anyway, enough ranting for now... naptime!

I can't tell you how many drivers that weren't complaining about miles have told me "take that 200 mile run. They are getting you to a better load." but so many drivers turn them down.
My wife and I beg for local work at every freaking terminal. The wife even begged for office work (and finally bugged them enough to give it to her) while we were sitting waiting on the shop.
Communicate with dispatch, let them know what's going on, and don't turn down loads. I'm with you, even if it is only 450 miles, it's better than sitting.
Of course, the 1000 miles, for a team, with a 3 day hard delivery time... that sucked.

After being laid off for the 2nd time in 6 months I've decided to jump in the pool. I know times are bad in trucking but they are tough all over. I spoke to Sandy on Monday and since then have completed an online application and fax'ed in my student finance papers.
After reading the 90+ pages of this fourm I'm wondering what I can expect? My credit is great so that should not be a problem but should I expect they will even be running a March class? If so how many miles a week can I hope to get after completing the 30 day class?

Yea, I'm gonna go through the 30 day class cause I had to give up my CDL a couple of yrs ago because of high blood pressure. I've got that under control now so i'm ready to get back out there.

How can drivers turn down a load? I thought W/S had forced dispatch.

no its not " forced ". but not the best thing to turn one down, cause just like said above they will not like you very much

so i am back OTR yet again, do to the falling economy w/s is forced to take mesuares to keep the drivers moving rather then send us on our way with out a job, so now that im back otr, i took a load down to dalton, and decided to take the truck in for an oil change, and to have them check out a small oil leak that i had. well the mechanic decided to shut me down, due to more problems with the truck.
i am back at home now, team drove up with a nother driver. got an email this monring, " Looks like your truck will be down for a week or SO " turns out I got a cracked head... i figured something was up cause my fule avrg went up a decent amount... so they are trying to find me a truck to use in the mean time.
I really like my truck, and dont want to part ways with it anytime soon. but time will tell what will happen.
anyway, just wanted to throw an update out there. -

when opi and anthony were on my local radio station, they had a WOW thing, and that was when women see the WOW bumber sticker on cars/trucks they had to do something (00)... so is that you??
also, things have changed in watkins, how long ago did you work here?
i no that over the christmas new years holiday they did have forced disp. but that cause they were limited to the amount of drivers they had.
