    Gods speed driver...

I hate to see this continually happening... Why do flatbedders continue to not use headache racks and/or bulkhead?... Especially for steel loads.

They're mostly made from aluminum so even if these guys have one, when that steel breaks loose, it's going right through them. Best thing is to make sure you are properly secured and check it often, especially on steel loads. Unfortunately, sometimes that's not even enough, but it's the best you can do. It's sad anytime this happens, but even more so when it was completely preventable had the pickup been paying attention and using his head.

Not even God's headache rack is going to hold back 52000 pounds of raging steel being driven forward by several tons additional of impact forces.

Very sad story in many ways.

I am wondering if there is any real way to properly secure that stuff.

If this was the other way around the trucker would already be facing charges.

    RIP Driver.

It could at least have an impact. One of ours caught a 45,000lb coil on the loose, so it's not out of the question.

Nope. Nice try. A properly built “wood bulkhead” would have prevented that slide from ever starting sliding in the first place. They take maybe 4 minutes to put in place.

And beyond that, a headache rack would have probably blunted and spread the energy of that steel to a point it would have not traveled clear through the cab, largely un-impeded.
