Instead of wanting the government trying to solve your problems. Grow some balls and tell the broker to shove that load right up his ### like the rest of us do.

You want transparency for brokers & shippers but that should go for both the O/O and brokers. As I said don't like the rate don't haul it simple as that. Way more important issues going on in this industry then worrying about how much a broker is making.
Learn to control your cost and keep ur CPM down.

@Bigman155 what is your plan to get the brokers to pay more, assuming you know how much they have in the load?

How come you weren't inquiring about government intervention during the covid deal when it was name your rate to the broker?

Everybody concentrating on getting the best deal for their own family creates the best possible outcome. NOT an outcome with no problems. Not an outcome where everyone is happy or wealthy. An outcome where the most possible people get the best possible result. Every social "innovation" shuts out someone and moves wealth toward someone else. It's an imposed unfairness when you try to "fix the system" which leaves fewer people less well off.

    Ya, it's really mind boggling.

What has the government done to help the single owner operator?

    1. Elogs
    2. These clean air trucks that need DEF and tons of sensors to operate, that's just money down the drain daily.

    3. Soon to be, speed limiters....

But yet, some of these guys want more "help" from the government. :laughing-guffaw:

Brokers dont control the prices bud... supply/demand and the person buying/selling the goods being hauled do...... Oh and lets not forget all the other carriers that are taking loads at those low rates either... You should maybe understand how the whole process works before commenting about what a broker makes when clearly you dont know. Id be glad to help enlighten you.

I say we regulate all the scam artist, double brokering, trash bags out of the business but that would require someone in the US govt to actually do work so dont hold your breath.

And on top of it all, if i convince my customer to give me 1000 for a load, and i can convince you to happily take if for 500, then what is the problem? You think you deserve 950 of that and i deserve 50? You think brokers dont do work because they dont drive? Oh boy, id love to pay you to sit with me for a week and see what kind of utter hilarity absolute shenanigans i deal with on the daily from both customer and carrier alike.

When I'm bored I'll respond to an email from a broker thats looking for someone to cover a load at some ridiculously low rate.

"That's funny" or "You're joking, right?" Is my typical response.

If more carriers would hold the line then the rates would go up, but only up as high as the average carriers are willing to haul for in the name of staying afloat. Available trucks to available loads in the end is the driving factor in the rates agreed upon between carriers and brokers.

I think there should be a loadboard designed for Shippers to post loads for Carriers to bid on. I think the carriers profiles as well as shippers should have detailed information on previous foul ups/ issues. The rating system could show carriers past performance, Safer score and insurance status in one easy to read page. The amount of haggling with greedy brokers would be reduced and rates would go up for carriers while simultaneously saving money for shippers. The rates for specific lanes would be in the open for all to see while also remaining a free market. Crappy carriers and dishonest shippers would have reviews and a poor rating to warn others to stay away.

The current load boards are tilted in favor of brokers in my opinion and allow them to more easily get the lowest rates possible by using analytics to assist them while pocketing who knows how much for a one sided service, they serve the shippers not the carriers. If we want our slice of the pie we need to go directly to the shippers and I think a direct loadboard is the easiest way to do it on a large scale. Cutting out the brokers would just be icing on the cake!
