That's all we can hope for. Unfortunately, we don't have a free market economy.

We can only wish it were, however, it isn't.

The Oligarchy rules in this country and has for many a moon.

    This from Wikipedia:

A study conducted by political scientists Martin Gilens of Princeton University and Benjamin Page of Northwestern University was released in April 2014,[24] which stated that their "analyses suggest that majorities of the American public actually have little influence over the policies our government adopts." The study analyzed nearly 1,800 policies enacted by the US government between 1981 and 2002 and compared them to the expressed preferences of the American public as opposed to wealthy Americans and large special interest groups.[25] It found that wealthy individuals and organizations representing business interests have substantial political influence, while average citizens and mass-based interest groups have little to none.

What does "innocent until proven guilty" have to do with EOBRs?

Unless you're an outlaw trucker wanting to run illegal until a DOT audit shuts you down, or you kill somebody and end up in prison once they find that 2nd and 3rd book you've been running.

How does purchasing an EOBR equate to "incriminating yourself"?

Unless you are openly admitting you're running illegal logs, there is nothing to incriminate yourself for.

A "forced mandate to purchase equipment"?

So, you until now have never even purchased a log book, tire chains, plates, ifta stickers, straps, binders, fire extinguisher, headlights, tail lights, marker lights, warning devices, placards, windshields, mud flaps, tires, bumper, brakes....

After all, you shouldn't be forced to buy anything to run a safety sensitive business, right?

Of course rates are up where they should be, you can't cook the book and run cheap, driving capacity up and rates down.

Simple fact, when you say the problem is elogs, people hear "I want to run illegal". If you have a problem with the current HOS, work on that, because you will not win arguing against elogs.

I remember last year when Trump was having a business leader(s) round-table meeting. Do any of you remember who was seated at the table "representing" the Transportation Industry?

No cheating now, don't google it ;-)

he sure has represented the truck driver hasn't he? what a sack of #### that guy is,and his (former) company.
thats not to say i have anything against swift drivers.i do not. they're just guys trying to make a living too. of course, they can and often do change my mind on my thoughts of them individually.

i'll take my tinfoil hat off here a moment.

back a couple years after 9/11 we had probably 40 otr trucks, and a dozen day cabs running around Twin Cities MN. some division of the washington county sheriff office calls us asking if we could be their emergency carrier for any various logistical needs in the event of a disaster. i said we would.

it is easy to believe if counties are doing this,so is the federal government, and Moyes was up rubbing elbows in D.C multiple times.

i think Swift is one of those carriers, and i think their safety rating is massaged to maintain a respectable rating for that reason.
