Carrying a weapon in a side box across state lines into say NJ, if they find it during a search you are in so much crap is it worth it? The last I heard was a guy from TX in his car forgot about his pistol in the trunk, in a locked box. NJ troopers found it and took him to jail and he was charged with some interstate weapon smuggling crime and that gets 10 years. Can't remember what happened, maybe someone can.
While I see your point, just not having it on your person does not save you.

This is false. You can legally transport a properly licensed firearm through out the united states.

The Firearms Owners' Protection Act protects those traveling through a state whose destination is not in the prohibited state. It won't get you concealed carry in your car, but it may protect you from NJ's ban on hollow points as long as the gun is out of reach and you don't leave the main highway except for food or fuel.

Now, if one's destination IS within the prohibited state, they are then subject to that state's laws.

The events that i stated actually happened, so that is not false.
If what you said is true, why are you hiding it in your side box?
States like CA & NJ don't give a rip about fed law.

Because in my side box it is legal in states that don't reciprocate. In the cab it is not.

I didn't say that event did not happen, my comment was directed at your cross state lines statement. Like mack said, I can pass through jersey, i can even stop for food, fuel, and rest. Jersey can not be my destination to load or deliver.

Edit to add: if you do some research on that case against the guy from Texas you will find there is a lot more to the story than simply crossing state lines.

If you are going to carry, or is YOUR responsibility to research the transport laws in each state you week be traveling through. Do your due diligence and you will be fine. Bad things happen to those that don't put in the effort.

In a state you're not permitted for, the firearm must remain out of reach and unloaded

Otherwise, you may keep it handy.

Has happened on occassion, in both my truck and personal vehicle. First thing i do when the officer approaches the truck is tell him i have one and where it is. Then hand him my permit with my drivers license. I have never had an officer give me any grief over it.

Did this happen in your home state (where you have a permit) or another state?
