SMD accurate resistors used as shunts are made by DALE, if you solder in conventional dip resistor it cant exchange heat with board and will overheat, it is not all, DALE resistors do not change its resistance with heat, convenbtional resistors do, so you'll get delayed no flame detection and short burn insert life.

As donors use bad, damaged engine control units, like Cummins, Mercedes PLD, Volvo....

    Pablo,
I looked @ the Webasto site and for me the Thermo 90 st
would best suite my needs. That being said, the price was
$2,600.00 not including install. 1) I believe it to be worth it,
opinions? 2) Could i/ would I want to install myself....
Very capable with anything mechanical. Thanx in advance

Thanks for the info. I guess Vishay Dale is the correct manufacturer?
Can anyone tell med what the smd form factor of the 1R0 resistor is?
I can only find resistors with solder strips on the short ends, as opposed to on the long ends.

Use onky SMD of your form factor, becouse it is cooling issue. Resistor must not be hot.

What would be a reasonable temperature coefficient for this purpose?
    I can buy a 2 ppm/K resistor for $40/piece, or there is 50 ppm/K units for $0.1/piece.

The correct form factor with soldering point on the long side seems to be hard to get over here in Europe :-/
What about an axial resistor covered with thermal glue?

50 ppm/K is enought becouse aluminium body assorbs heat well. Axial resistor with thermal paste may work. I did not try, but I sugest would work.

Really the best electronic elements supplier are in Shen Zhen, China. The sell all stuff with any postal service.

Compare picture below. After this repair the Thermo top C has been working perfectly for a month now. I could'nt get an SMD resistor, had to to a quick repair.

Removed the old resistor, placing a 100W soldering iron transversely on top of it and lifting it with a knife. Soldered in a "traditional" 1 Ohm metal film resistor (1%, probably 0,25W).

    0.25 - 0.5 wt must work

    george13 Thanks this.

Just for info, my Thermo Top C is now running perfectly again!
I replaced the faulty 1R0 SMD resistor with a standard 0,4W 1R0 one.
    Thanks for tips :)

By the way, have another Thermo Top C with a faulty NTC temp. sensor.
Anyone happen to know the specs on that one?
    Thanks!
