if i understand good weed burner is exhaust pipe below chassis?

    if it is

    this is better solution

lighter cheaper and lot of other benefits

    only one problem

    ......

when you are heavy-laden going uphill on smaller hill like 3-4% with full power and at very high speed

    on rain

and your wheels sprays to exhaust pipe is in "hardening" process

and after five- six years of this it is ruined

Lower exhausts cost less money, weigh less and are cheaper to maintain. (less parts to replace). the trend nationwide is to limit idleing. As time goes on, it will become illegal to idle anywhere and there will be teeth in the enforcement.
Not saying I agree, but just saying that's the way it's coming.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a national law passed requiring the installation of an APU and automatic idle shutdown (without the possibility of bypass) in the next few short years.
Think I'm crazy? Look at the CARB rules in Cali now. And as goes Cali, goes the nation. After 2014, you can't relicense your truck in Cali if it doesn't conform.
Well how long before that becomes a national law? And subject to DOT inspections.
    Exhaust won't really matter.

people say new Euro-6 Diesel engines will be the last pure diesel. Seems to me next gen of trucks will all be hybrid and later when LiPo batteries will be cheapper diesel trucking be the far past.

yep, there are some other then Otto cycle engines. Rodless engines...

I remember old Russian project of turboshaft bus. It was fuel efficient, fast, light but not easy to control and sometimes too fast. Hybrid with turboshaft engine and LiPo pack may be good idea.

but.... I wanna remind you about old projects with truck trolleys, wide enought you can use network to connect and disconnect non stop, wireless power transfer system based on magnetic resonanse. just imagine, you have LiPo powered truck and you can charge batteries running on public road. But diesel will not dissapeare, will be cheap becouse of alternative bun will not be available becouse on new emission laws

Long story short, there are things to stay cool when it gets hot outside. I could explain but let's get back to subject. BTW, I wouldn't put my drivers through anything I haven't done myself and feel is tolerable or not safe. It's not wise to assume that just because someone is a manager means they've never driven OTR. I don't know it all, but I've seen and done a lot.

Where do you find this info? Is this only for trucks that are based out of Cali or even out of state trucks that come into Cali?

I thought the last EPA regulations and enforcement were going to be 2012?

Most of the APU's I have parked by were just worse than these "weed burners"

And the new trucks give out so little emissions that I haven't noticed any problems being parked by them. I think it is more of a prefference than anything, they are nothing like an old 3408 with weed burner pipes!

Those would put you in a very deep sleep. You would wake up on the other side. Why is it ok for a truck to burn weed and not ok for the driver. Seems hypocritical. Gonna start giving out drug tests to the trucks to make sure their in compliance and obeying the laws. Zero tolerance. Trucks and drivers.

    SHC Thanks this.
