I'll keep that in mind, I know logging is a much tougher job and that doesn't scare me... But I've seen several folks on the forums advise against logging for newer guys. My guess would be conditions of the "roads" you're driving on. Trying not to completely trash my record. Lol

That being said... I've already seen two job postings going between that area and those mills. And that was in the first 3 pages.

...I drove in Calgary once in a 4-wheeler. If you know where you're going I suppose it isn't so bad. But I hated it... Driving Atlanta streets is by far worse because they aren't marked as clearly, but the number of one-way roads that changed during the day would drive me batty!

Alberta logging is a little different than BC logging though. BC has a lot of mountains you can fall off whereas AB tends to be a little more flat. Quite a difference in rigging to. It's pretty common in BC to see pole trailers for longs and quad axle waggons for shorts. You do see the odd b train as well. AB tends to use b trains and hayracks more commonly.

I love terminology from industries... It's so much fun to learn stuff as a whole. Some of the terms you wonder how they came up with.

    Unfortunately, I don't speak logging. :p

Google on the other hand, does.

...the, "falling off a mountain" bit is giving me some trouble. :biggrin_25522:

Nah, I like to learn and I have zero problem with hands on training. (Little more difficulty if you toss a textbook at me, but eh.)

I'll keep that in mind as I job search. I'm more concerned about rough terrain over falling off a mountain. I have a little more control over whether or not I fall off a mountain is the only reason.

Alberta still has jobs. They're just not oil. I live in Calgary and am also job searching. X2 on the logging locations. Check out Kijiji as well, although beware of scammers.

Not sure about the sponsoring you though. All of my work has been with 15 trucks max companies, but I'd think the bigger guys like Bison would be more apt to do that.

Banff isnt far to Calgary, and you don't have to live IN Calgary. There's Cochrane, Airdrie, Okotoks, all smaller communities within driving distance of Calgary.

If I recall the immigration laws correctly, I don't "need" a sponsor.

Proof of steady job is enough to grant a visa. After you've been there long enough, you can file for citizenship.

Having a sponsor helps very much with acceptance and paperwork.

I know I don't have to live inside Calgary. In fact, I refuse to. Give me a place where I can sip on a cup of tea, eat dinner or relax outside and enjoy the mountains, trees and so forth and I'm a happy camper.

I heard a redneck joke about that once...

You might be a redneck if you've ever shot a deer from your bathroom window. ;)

And you can shoot a gun in your yard now! Just gotta hide it before anyone shows up to investigate!

As far as job search, sorry.....I got nothing. But you did pique my curiosity so I pulled up Cracklist. Man! The first 100 postings, I'd say conservatively at least 75-80 were either scams outright, blood sucking recruiters (note several different ads, for different companies, all with the same URL), or local scumball outfits I wouldn't take a job at if I was broke and homeless! I feel for you man....Anyway good luck with the search and learning to say "eh?" at the end of every other sentence....LOL:D

I've got a 50 yard range with a 12' thick dirt backstop literally 30' from my back door. But I AM a Redneck from the South.....

I got to be 400 meters from any building or road to legally discharge my firearms. Trouble is my yard isn't that big. At least the local range is a 2 minute drive from home.
