..well good Yogi checked in & he's still grindn' gears out there, must be harder than I thought not havin' access to the internet when ur on the road.. if u can spare the cash a netbook or laptop with a wi-fi card will come in handy on the road; I know a lot of the rookie drivers cant afford that expense right now but it will pay for itself in less than a year.. paying bills online, checking ur bank acct online, email, YHM, mapquest, movies; well there's lots of info u can get from that little laptop when ur sitting at a shipper/receiver or on ur reset..

Yeah sometimes you get stuck at a receiver for hours and hours so a laptop so you can watch movies or the internet would be great when you first start out if you have one. I don't have internet but my trainer had a tv and dvd player. So we watched a bunch of movies to say the least. The bigger truckstops have internet you can buy from them for like $20 a month or something like that.
I passed my final tests today along with Oscar. We finish up orientation tomorrow then wait for our truck. ok, football is on and I wanna relax in a comfy bed. Good luck everyone, be safe and God Bless!!

Now can the permit be from your home state or does it have to be in the state that you go to school?

    Thanks!

You will get the permit from your home state. When you test for your licence you will need to swap to the state you tested in, then will have to pay the full ammt again to transfer back to your home state. And yes, it is allot more than a normal licence to transfer, but they cannot make you take any tests again.
Physical is different. You could have had one the week before you get there and you will have to do it again. It is a company policy. All big companys make you do a physical when you go to them, no matter how much time is left on your old one.

    JimTheHut Thanks this.

Some states may make you retake the written tests, as they have a limit as to how long the results are good. Because of being away for a long time and having a CDL from another state I just made the deadline in Indiana. Also remember, if you want/need a Haz/Mat endorsement, you will need to wait an additional 30 days for prints/background check. Otherwise you may have to pay again to get that endorsement added.

I have had my CDL in LA, MD 2 times, FL and NY
I have never taken any tests after the first, and that was in 1991.
If a state is making you retake a CDL test after you have your license already then they are breaking a federal regulation. Because all CDL testing and the license itself is based on the federal regs.
Hazmat you must retake every 5 years. But that is separate. I am finally breaking down and thinking about getting mine again. I let it go around 1996 (well before background checks) because I was not using and did not feel like testing again. Hazmat is the only difficult test for a license. Though they probably fixed it by now. It was so poorly written back then that you could not get over a 90 if you had even half way decent reading comprehension. The questions just plain did not make any sense.
Several of he company's I am checking out right now require it, and I need to start really looking. Don't want to go 6 months without driving.

Just aced the haz/mat a few weeks back. It's pretty straight forward now. Think you might find quite a few things have changed in the last 14 years.

Hey there! So I am a girl that is interested in teaming up with Central. Never in my life did I think I would do this. Yeah I thought how fun it would be to travel around as a passenger, but never as a driver.
Anyhow, I do have a question for ya. That is when doing the physical exam, what were some of the reasons as to why some people didn't pass?
