thank you so much for this info..I don't mind going full time if i can make as much or more than what i'm currently making which is mid 40k/yr for my first year.
i'm still not getting it...sorry for being dense. so by the time Friday ends, i'd have 40 hours used up out of my 70 since the clock is still running right? Also i take it the 14 hour is in good standings, because i'm technically only on-duty-not-driving for 8 hours and then going to off-duty for the rest (16 hours) of the 24 hours which resets my 14 hour clock daily. But those 8 hours of on-duty-not-driving are still being counted against my 70?? is that correct? If so, then i'd have 30 hours left on my 70 hour clock. so then technically I can still work 14 hours on Saturday and then 14 hours on Sunday and still be under my 30. Now the issue is when or how do i reset my 70??
Correct. You have to have 34 hours uninterupted off duty to restart your clock. Now with each day after 8 days you'll have 8 hours fall off of your 70. But you're working full time. So, you're adding 8 hours right back on. Hopefully I've got this going through my head right. Been a long time since I was on paper and didn't have a computer figuring it out for me. Much like a GPS, elogs make you go dumb.
For the record that is 70 hours for 8 days not 7. Be mindful of this. As has already been said it is very difficult to hold 2 driving jobs like this and stay legal.
As was just commented on. You can be on duty if my math is right 8 hours and 45 minutes every day. You can not go over this. If you start a day with only 8 hours and 45 minutes left on your week this means if you have a breakdown or get held up one day and can't get in by the time this 8 hours and 45 minures expire you have busted your 70. Do this enough and at some point safety is going to be calling you in for a powwow.
Yes, you can WORK 14 hours on Sat and 14 hours on Sunday and stay within your 70 hours. However of those 14 hours of WORK only 11 can be driving. So, you could drive a yard truck on private property, for example, for 14 hours Sat and Sun. Any driving on public roads is DRIVING, limited to 11 hours before a required 10 hours OFF/SLEEPER.
No, he can't work for 7 days and use that much time. If his job is driving and he is logging all this time and turning in those logs he can only be on duty 8.75 hours a day. Go over 70 hours on duty and while you can still work you can not legally drive once over that 70 hours. Remember that weekly total applies to both line 3 and 4.
Not ball busting here, just being real. By this math/Logic he would always be at 68hrs, thus never have to worry about breaking the 70hr cap. It’s a lot of hours to put in every single week, but doable non the less. Personally Op, i would take @Chinatown’s list and find a local company where you can pull a decent salary. Do your homework, this forum is a wealth of knowledge (after you discard the bogus trash). You could be home every night/day and off weekends while making 70k+ a year.
My first thought was the same as your comment. Then I re read the OPs comment about not wanting to quit his day job.
