My buddy was at 80k+ when he was down here for the race in Oct. He hates it though. They just raised retirement from 20/55 to 20/65 cause of the unions pension problems.

no, he is disgruntled, like a lot of ny teamsters, about the pension plan.he doesn't hate the union, he hates what is happening to his retirement plan. you have no early retirement now, like there used to be. it used to be 30 and out, no matter what your age, with no penalization. now its being changed to 65 and out, unless you are willing to take a hit on how much you get back. its a percentage for every year early i think, and it caps off at a certain point.

still a good retirement, but not as good as it was before. and probably not something anyone my age wants to look at, as it won't be much by the time i'm there.

I would have had 35yrs in at age 55. The way it is now I would have to stay 45yrs to get the full pension at 65, if it's still there. That gets under peoples skin! The other thing is getting forced EVERY weekend. How'd you like to work someplace 40yrs and still get forced every week? When my buddy came down, even though he was on vacation, he had to call in to say he was unavailable so he didn't get a no call/no show. It's really changed since I left!!

Unfortunately for all of us the economy is kicking us all as it kicks the companies to cut back. There won't be anything left like social security and I figue I will never retire.....

My sister retired from wegmans when she was 46.

A little bit of work on your end, and you won't need to rely on somebodys pension, and or social security !!!

If and when she collects those, it's all gravy !!!

It all goes back to that personal responsibility, and good money management stuff...

    just sayin..........

I agree with you there but unfortunately for me my circumstances changed dramatically when my soon to be ex of slough who hasn't worked in almost 4 years and basically I (yes duhhhh kick me!) realized recently have been supporting his arse thru most of the marriage is going after my retirement, MY HOUSE (bought prior to the marriage) a PV, boat and money. This will leave me with a debt as I will have to probably borrow money to cover all the expenses-lawyer, cost of what I am offering and the money I am paying HIM FOR SPOUSAL SUPPORT! I have a good paying job and now am glad I didn't pay into my current 401k cuz it's just more that he will get and OH btw he cashed out his retirment a few years ago and I found out when I did the taxes

So sometimes the best laid plans of mice and men.........:biggrin_25513:

It is true that Pottsville is non-union and Rochester is, however everything else is untrue. Both sets of drivers see each other everyday at the stores and talk quite frequently. Both Rochester and Pottsville drivers are treated better than any other company bar none. I recommend Wegmans to anyone that is looking to be treated fairly and respectfully. Being hired can be hard because Wegmans only hires the most qualified, not just as a driver but as a "people person". I have over twenty years on the road and I wish I had gone with Wegmans years and years ago.
As far as pay, you receive overtime for Sundays and if you come in on your day off. Top rate is in the 20's.
Good luck to all and I hope this helps!!

    Thanks WegmansDriver

I see the ads on CraigsList for Wegmans-only problem is they will only hire you on here for now starting 2 Saturdays a month. Hard for someone that is already working and not enough to live on. I agree and have heard good things about them overall as an employer and they have made the top 10 jobs like 8 years in a row as an over all company.

As a driver for Wegmans for 12 years, I can tell you that Wegmans is the best place to work period. You can reach top rate in just 7 years and make over 100K easily. You do have to be willing to work though. 65 to 70 hour weeks are common. They do treat you like family as long as you do your job as required. Rochester drivers though are paid differently than Pottsville. Rochester drivers make much nore. We get mileage (51.5 cents per mile) plus activity pay plus delays paid at 1 1/2 times and Sundays are double time. Health insurance is around $42.00 per week for a family plan. I wouldn't work anywhere else.
