At Roehl we had a similar situation in Wyoming. They were complaining that we weren't entering the port of entry. We as drivers pointed out that we were getting a green light on the prepass. About a week later we were told as long as we had a green light keep going, that is the purpose of prepass. I would imagine oversize is a different story.

Alabama wow I love that place ran up and down that hwy a bunch. yep follow the signs I got stopped because prepass said go and sign said stop! He was good tho just said be careful and follow signs if they change at last minute there is a problem.
walstib Thanks this. -
Since I don't haul hazmat, oversize or wide loads, or if at the time I'm not hauling produce in an area that still requires you to stop regardless, I keep on rolling despite what that other lit-up sign says.AZS Thanks this. -
I always stop at scales when I have an over sized load on the truck. I have had some scales tell me that I didn't need to stop and others say to stop. I figure that it is safer to just stop at all of them and I should not have any problems. However, I have had some ask why I stop if they give me the green light. What can you say?!!
One thing about the prepass. If you are given the green light on the prepass and a red light on the scale, the prepass light will stay on for a couple of miles after passing the scale. If you get pulled over for bypassing a scale and the green light is still on there should still not be a problem. I remember traveling south on I-15 in California once when I had prepass. The prepass gave me a red light. The scale was full to the road and the scale sign said closed. I did bypass the scale. I was a little concerned about passing it, but was safer to not stop on the highway. There was no room on the ramp. You need to use personal judgment.corneileous Thanks this. -
Did you get a green light on the Pre-Pass? If so, follow the Pre-pass. You should see posted signs out before a weigh station stating: AVI trucks follow on-board signals.
Don't do this in Kentucky, Idaho, Oregon and Washington though. Those states use Nor-pass and not Pre-pass. In those states, you MUST stop regardless of what the Pre-pass tells you, unless the signs tell you otherwise. -
Some weigh stations will have posted signs out that'll tell you to bypass when the ramp is full. California weigh stations also have posted signs that tell you which point the weigh station is full at. -
In NM the ramp could be backed up to the state line and they'd still be open.
