That's why I take pictures of these formulas and have them in my phone if needed. Didn't have them at the time of these first two rookie stories.
Only once I've came close to max gross by 20lbs had to shift 800 or 900 to the steer's (had breathing room) It was shingles and the guy centered it further up than he should of and I didn't catch it. A lot of it you have to do quick basic math.... just ask pallet size, pieces, total weight of load and ball park it.
One time I was down in Kansas with a Conestoga picking up salt and the loader was bubbles from trailer park boys. Acted like he didn't know how to load a trailer. Asked me what I wanted and I wasn't sure because I had little information of the load so asked him basics and counted from the front of the trailer. Scaled it at the shipper and was 80 over on the spread and 80 under on the drives. Just to be sure I cat scaled it and it was more like 400 over on the spread. Carried about 500lbs in 40lb bags to the nose just to make sure I was safe and rolled with it.
