How should I position 5th wheel to be legal? This is on a tanker (so no sliding tandem) and 5th wheel is currently slightly forward of center location.
The 40lb gross will get burned off in fuel. I’m only concerned about making the drives legal. All the way back and I’m concerned that would put the trailer overweight.

Sliding the 5th wheel forward will move some weight from the drives to the steer axle but probably not enough. It won't affect the trailer.

check to see if you front tires are rated to 13000 and if they are move that up by sliding that 5th forward, then carefull on hard corners because it will be a little front heavy.

2 holes forward on the 5th wheel if you have the flat locks, 4 notches on the Holland wedges. That will move close to 1000lbs, exactly how much depends on your wheelbase. -

The two scales were about an hour apart.
Also, looking back, the tank hadn’t fully settled when I did the scale. The second time it was settled. So that’s easily a good chunk of the difference as well.Hammer166 Thanks this. -
