I'm almost positive that weights were never mentioned when I was in "school". At least not by the instructors. But the 12-34-34 rule is what I've heard. Somewhere.

Schneider told everyone in training the limit is 12, to make 12-34-34, but all their steer axles are rated at 12,500 on the door sticker.

I don’t think it’s what the axle is rated for but what the States or scale house will allow

A 40k rear doesn’t allow for the weight

That's your problem. Learn your weights with 1/2 tanks.

    Motor Carrier Atlas

    Indiana, Weeziana, Mississippi all 12K.

Many go by 600 pounds per inch of tire width.

They’re taught that mainly because of the 80k rule. 34 for max drives, 34 max trailer tandem and balance of 12k given to the steers.

I wonder if those 12+34+34 teachers head will explode if they ever learn about trailers with spread axles.

I haven't looked on the actual axle, but here's my door sticker.

Don't move your 5th wheel all the way back. Keep it centered

as long as you're under gross weight and your steers dont exceed either the tire rating or axle rating then you are good to go.. the axle rating is printed on your door jam and the tire rating is printed on the side wall.
