So today I’m running a regular run of my in AR on 14/17.
There’s a few light weight bridges in the area.
im cruising at around 55/60 and come around a corner to find a guy stopped in front of the bridge.
He is freaking out stopped blocking traffic almost gets rear ended. Thankfully the guy in front of me stops and tells him he’s good to go.
I know for a fact I’ve ran 80K across it and it’s posted at 13tons.
How are these new guys supposed to route around these things?
Me I’ll drive over em till one kills me most likely. There sometimes the only way in or out

Well yea all the bridges could hold our weight until that one couldn't. And don't forget, that's 13 tons when the bridge was new. Think the bridge in Memphis. That bridge was rated at god knows what when new. But now it's shut down.
I'll do 15 tons on a bridge at 80K. But 13, nope I'm going around. I don't have enough savings to repair a bridge.Tb0n3, bzinger and homeskillet Thank this. -
I crossed those pulling hazmat tankers many times. Usually grossing between 70K - 80K.
That's very common in AR.
Only way to bypass some of those bridges is detour a couple hundred miles out of the way.
I've followed other trucks, tankers, reefers, across those bridges and seen trucks coming the opposite way.bzinger, Badmon, austinmike and 1 other person Thank this. -
when I was new I probably would have stopped like he did.
You have a lot of experience Chinatown is there a resource a guy can use to avoid em?
I don’t even tho k they’re listed on the atlas or website.Badmon Thanks this. -
Hell today I was at 57K with a little load.Chinatown Thanks this. -
I have a bridge on the next road that goes over a creek. It is rated at 5 tons and trucks don’t take the road much but when they do, drivers think that they can just fly over it. Like this road, there is big signs saying no trucks.
Last week we had to trucks and a large Amazon prime delivery truck go over it in succession, the trucks made it, the Amazon truck didn’t. The road is closed now.
The trucks were caught on a bling camera so the county is going after the companies for the damage, the Amazon driver was banged up and the county sheriff said they were just under 5tons.jamespmack Thanks this. -
The bridges me and China are talking about are not listed as restricted ANYWHERE. Atleast I haven’t found them listed as such and I’ve looked a lot.
I drag 20-40tons across it atleast twice a week. I don’t even wanna think about how much the over loaded end dumps weigh.
That said Mr.ridgeline can you help me out and possible some new drivers as well?
it seems like someone out there has to know other then just watching other trucks. -
Depends on the equipment but from experince between 85500 and 105000. Depends on how ballsy the driver is. I typically hard pass on anything above 81k in my rig....but its also an antique trailer thats iffy at best

Just like restrictions, those bridges on state and county roads can be posted by pretty much any municipalities at any level of government. The Truckers’ Atlas can’t possibly list all of them or it would be about a half dozen phone books thick.
Then you have the situations where something gets posted for no other reason than a politician was paid for it because somebody with plenty of money to buy politicians saw a truck go by and got offended.JolliRoger, D.Tibbitt, God prefers Diesels and 3 others Thank this.
