I’m not new but new to this.
In my 15 years of driving I’ve never had to deal with scales or getting weighed. Now that I’ve moved to North Dakota I seem to cross one daily!
I have a few questions that need some clarification!
I weighed myself yesterday and this is what I got:
Front - 13,900
Truck rear - 19,600
Trailer group - 11,600
With that being said is my full unit 45,100lbs empty ( if I were to put it all on a scaled all together ?? )
Weight, wait? What?

Secondary question.
I weighed myself loaded. Weights as followed.
Front - 13,360
Rear Truck - 41,700
Trailer - 39,400
Add those up and I’m at 94,500.
If I subtract loaded from empty that gives me 49,400lbs. Would that be accurately what I’ve loaded? ( for example let’s say I loaded 10 things - 49,400/10= 4940 per piece )
Thoughts? Does this make sense or am I just being crazy. -
I gotta ask.
1) what kind of rig are you driving? Truck & trailer.
2) are you weighing at a certified scale or are you weighing at Jim Bobs scale at his grandpa's house?
I mean, generally speaking, neither of your two threads discussing your weights & weight tickets make any sense. I'm not saying they aren't true... just saying, generally speaking, nothing is ordinary. There's more to this than just normal situation here. We need more info on this.88 Alpha, Coffey, Crude Truckin' and 2 others Thank this. -
IIRC he runs a heavy spec tridrive with a tridem tank, so weights are gonna be more than your typical 5 axle rig.
To OP: I would say yes, if you add up each axle group, that would be your gross weight.Grumppy Thanks this. -
If you are weighing each axle separately you can sometimes come up with a figure slightly different from a platform scale that weighs the entire unit at once. This can be due to the approach and/or departure not being perfectly flat and applying or removing some force from the weighed axle(s).Last edited: Feb 26, 2020

94,500 - 45,100 = 49,400. So yes the load itself is 49,400....

Looks like with that rig, you'll still be going around the scales. IDK, sounds like a pretty hefty empty weight. Years ago, I seem to remember 40K for a large car and reefer. You had a hard time with 40K in the box. Even the vans I pulled, 46K was the limit. If you have air ride, I strongly suggest a drive axle pressure gauge.

I’m weighing myself at the scale house where the DOT agents sit.
This is my truck and the current trailer I’m using.88 Alpha, OLDSKOOLERnWV, D.Tibbitt and 3 others Thank this. -
OK great... thanks. all makes sense now.
