Letting it cool while draining truck 1V a hour?
Yeesh, that's like a form of ... suicide. Either way don't you think maybe to replace that Regulator?
Im having a hard time dealing with the voltage regulator concept because in my mind you are taking me back to one of my old cars and those made in the 60's that had that. Alternators took over that task making the VR unnecessary.
The problem is complicated by the need of a computer all over that truck to maintain at least 9 something volts to stay booted. Otherwise they go off line.

Update Nov 15th
Replaced the alternator this past Saturday and the issue persisted. Replaced all the batteries on Sunday and everything ran fine til this evening when the voltage started dropping again.
Only thing I neglected to mention in my original post was that the previous owner had a power inverter installed. It was installed well, with a fuse in the battery box before coming thru the floorboard. Tonight I disconnected that.
Next on the docket is the 2 relays in the fuse block under the steering wheel and possibly the low voltage disconnect.
Is it I need any way possible that there’s a bad pigtail wire that goes between the trailer and truck? The previous owner had a spare in the side box so I’m wondering if that’s why? Everything looks good, no frayed sheathing or anything.
Thanks again all!x1Heavy Thanks this. -
But.... eh... thinks carefully... let's consider you have not said a word about having a trailer on or not. I would presume you are complaining just about the tractor. It would have been easy to overlook that trailer as a electrical parasite in some way.sixshooterz Thanks this. -

So! After the new alternator and 4 brand new batteries, I was left stranded on the side of the road. Called a mobile repair guy to come charge my batteries so I could at least get home. He pulled off the battery cover and within 60 seconds said "something isn't right. Turns out that the batteries were working in pairs and only one pair was connected to the alternator. The other was powering the ecm. Somehow, while MHC Kenworth did their walk thru on this truck, the fact that all four batteries weren't connected slipped past their "expert" technicians. Problem solved!
Side note, if you're ever broken down or I 85 in Georgia between ATL and SC, call Evans Mobile Truck Repair.

Sometimes it just takes a fresh (and trained) pair of eyes to look at it. Glad you got it figured out.
I once had a 45k mile, 2 year old PornStar with incorrect fuel transfer line connections. Right tank ran dry with the left tank full. Had been to the dealer numerous times. Wanna guess who figured THAT one out?Last edited: Nov 21, 2017
