    @gpf87 had the best response.

    Actually there are dozens of shapes of "snow". I put that in parentheses because what most folks think of as the six sided snowflake is probably the least common frozen precipitation.

    I studied snow and snow morphology for years. Morphology means how snow changes after it is formed and especially how it changes after it hits the ground. That was critical for survival when you are in the mountains, deciding whether crossing that slope represents a risk of avalanche. That's when you break out a snow shovel, a credit card, a whisk broom, and a magnifying glass to dig a snow pit and see if the slope has an unstable layer of rhime ice four feet below the solidifying pack on top. That would be a "no go" situation.

    I loved skiing when graupel was falling hard. Little balls, like ball bearings. Smooth as silk to glide across the slope.

    The shape of snow is almost endless.

    I thanked your post, even though the great majority of snowflakes are slightly different from each other. But, if you pay REALLY close attention to each flake on your windshield...

    ... you can miss that curve and go "off roading".:D

    @gpf87 I figured such.
    I was in a one room building with a few other kids. The year was 1958 / 1959. (Many years before you were even born). The room had one teacher for both the 2nd and 3rd grades. Her name was Mrs. Gomez. We were very into reading, writing and arithmetic. The total population of our little South Texas Town was 315. I think it was a good way to grow up. So many things have changed in the world of education and the way kids are brought up since then. You may look down at me because I didn't learn the same way you did in the 2nd or 3rd grade, but I see that as being closed minded, short sighted and presumptuous. It was a good education for me and my classmates. We grew up and became productive individuals raising our own families with the same basic values as was taught to us by our parents and our teachers who like Mrs.Gomez instilled qualities in us that I still carry to this day. Too bad you missed out on that. BTW you posted an informative post, but tainted it with your snide remark about my education. Too bad.....
