Code was for camshaft position sensor. That shuts down the engine.
With the grinding noise it sounds like something let go in the cylinder heads. Not going to be cheap.D.Tibbitt, simongrewal, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this. -
Just found out both camshafts doesn’t move with crank. One Rocker broke and gear in head which moves camshaft gear all crunched up. Basically all engine died. Mechanic suggested to put another used engine in it. Estimate for $25000 includes labor.uncleal13, Another Canadian driver and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

The first mechanic that you took it to, don’t ever take anything to him again. All he had to do was pull the valve cover off and he would have seen all of the metal shavings in the head, no need to run an engine making that noise until it locks up.simongrewal Thanks this.

I asked him to check top and bottom of engine but he kept making guesses what it could be.

Not sure why you can’t rebuild your engine, is the block damaged?simongrewal Thanks this.

No block damaged. Timing gears on back of engine crunched and a rocker broke. I had rebuilt head like 15000 miles ago on this engine. First 15000 miles there was no problem no extra sound in engine. This banging sound started only like 3 days ago and i only drove truck 80-90 miles after that just to get to mechanic and last night it died.

Why is the mechanic recommending a used engine?86scotty Thanks this.
-
Because he doesn’t exactly know if my engine has damaged more stuff internally and might be need to change head again. Valve may bend.
-
How many miles/hours on these used engines?
