    I was going to post one weird warning ticket I got 3 years ago, it was so unbelievable and weird that I thought the officer was joking - but I didn't laugh... Good thing he didn't give me a Vehicle Examination Report, only the warning ticket.... but after this, I think I will keep it to myself...

    Speaking of warnings, I got pulled over for doing 56 in a 55 a few years back. That LEO must have been very bored.

    Another company driver got a violation at the Banning, CA station for illegal spit break. CA officer insisted (early 1990sunder the classic HOS) the only legal split break was 4/4. He had 4:15/3:45 split break. We used the same motel for layover and I saw his ticket and logs.

    I got a OOS for a headboard that didnt have braces across it. It was on my old KW cabover, if you remember they had the uprights on back for the mufflers and intake, well I had a diamond plate in between the uprights bolted on but no cross support(upright to upright). Anyway's , I told him what am I suppose to do, take it off then I would really be in violation, I had a load of lumber at the time, well he let me go and I got it fix. It was on the I-5 southbound San Onfre scales in So.Cal.

    No ticket for breaking the thread rules here...:biggrin_25525:

    It is a violation and you can be ticketed for having debris on your vehicle (landing gear, deck, frame, etc.) that can come off in transit.

    It always amuses me to see those signs on the back of dump trucks and end dumps, "Stay back 500 feet - Not responsible for damage". You are responsible for anything that falls off your truck.

    No, I am not looking for new and different violations that I can put on inspections. I have large books full of them (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regs, Haz Mat Regs, State Regs). If it is not in the book, I do not put it down as a violation on an inspection. If I can not pull out the book, and look at it with the driver at the time of the inspection, I will not put it down.

    In a previous life I drove a truck for a few years. I was DOT'd by good ones and bad ones. I determined long ago NOT to be one of those Smokey and the Bandit types with the mirrored shades - "I don't care what the law book says boy! This is MY highway! You aint gonna do that around here!":biggrin_2551:

    In my work I get to see inspection reports from all around the country. I am just as amazed as you are (maybe more) at violations like: dirty trucks, 45 degree exhausts, white sheets, log sheets in different books, lug nuts of questionable tightness...

    I just find it fascinating.

    Glad your brought this up. Why is it that these dumps have no plate or other identification on the back of their trucks. If something comes off a truck and hit you it is darn near imposible to chase them through traffic to pass them to get and any information.

    It legally depends on whether they run Apportioned plates or Commercial plates. Apportioned plates go on the front of the vehicle and Commercial plates go on the rear.
