Hey Free2Frog,
My husband will start orientation on September 4th. I am driving him from Indiana to Wisconsin because of the holiday weekend and bus terminal schedules. So far, I have been working with the recruiter, and I have to say that they have really been helpful. I will definitely let you know how his orientation goes. He cleaned out his truck from the other company, and everything is packed in my car, so Sunday we will be headed to WI.

I here some drivers saying that there not getting many miles and a lot of 900 mile trips with 3 days on them. On them 900 mile 3 day trips are they usually miltistop loads, and how much extra pay do the multisop loads get.

Finally made it home from Green Bay...and man that was a long drive back to back with 2 kids, but they were very good. Hubby is in Green Bay, and will start orientation tomorrow, and was talking to other drivers who were going to start orientation tomorrow. He said Schneider had a lot of drivers that were going to start orientation tomorrow, and that there was about 4 other guys starting for WEL tomorrow. Three were new student drivers, my husband who is experienced, and another guy who used to drive for WEL, who is getting back into driving again.
I thought it was very nice of WEL to pay for our room on Sunday, and to reimburse us the gas money to get him there. I have to say that not a lot of companies would do that, but I really did appreciate it. The kids had fun swimming in the swimming pool and relaxing in the hot tub, and we had a good breakfast. The hotel rooms were very clean, and it is not a dumpy motel that they put you up in. The continental breakfast that they serve has many different types of things to choose from, but if you want a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit or biscuits and gravy then McDonald's is right next door. There is also a few different restaurants across the street, and a gas station within walking distance too.
WORD OF ADVICE!!! IF YOU ARE A SMOKER BUY YOUR CIGARETTES BEFORE YOU EVEN GO TO WI...$7 DOLLARS A PACK IS OUTRAGEOUS!!

Hello,
Im trying to find out some info about Wel company. I might start oriantation soon. I have read negative posts about some others companies, and I would like to know about Wel. thank you for any info -
I did a lot of research on different companies that sounded good when talking to a recruiter, but didn't have positive reviews from drivers (spoken to out on the road, and not on the forum). I don't know if you are a student driver or an experienced driver, but this is the information that I found out from doing my research and talking with Wel.
Experienced Company drivers:
1-2 years get 38 cents per mile
weekly per diem
First and last stop not paid, but any additional stop pay is $30 per stop
First 2 hours free for loading and delivery (detention time must be approved by customer and the rate is $15 per hour)
Overnight is $75 if not planned under a load
1 year = 1 week vacation
paid travel and paid motel in Green Bay, WI. (It's pretty nice, I was there to drop hubby off last weekend) You can eat the continental breakfast there at the hotel, they supply lunch, and then you pay for your own dinner). Yesterday Bruce Tielans the President of the company took them out to dinner to meet them personally and get to know them. That says alot right there, because 99% percent of companies do not do that.
Orientation pay $187.50 (paid to you after orientation)
1000 sign on bonus to be paid on your first check.
They drive KW, Freightliners, and Pete's.
You will have to purchase load locks and padlock from them, and then they will deduct it from your first pay.
You are assigned a dispatcher that knows you by your name and not a number. They do reefer runs mostly, and some dry van runs. I know they have several locations, and you could look on their website for those locations. You are out for 2 weeks at a time, and home for 2 days. Payroll is Sunday through Saturday, and you either have to turn in your paperwork at a terminal, Fed ex at your own expense, or use a laptop with scanner to scan and send in.
If you are a student driver, then I really don't know any information on that. It would be best to talk to a recruiter there. I do have information on the Lease to Purchase, but it is alot to list. Cruisecontrol on this forum might be able to give you more information too. I would just PM him. -
Thank you! Yes is for my boyfriend, he is a recent grad no experience whatsoever
. They. Call him and told him that he can go for oriantation in 2 weeks. The pay is very low ,but we understand the costs of training on their behalf. He spoke to the recruter and everything sounds ok. He has 3 options swift, wel, and Western express. Western express will pay him 175.00 a week for 4 weeks of training that its really really low though.
-
Please take some advice..Stay away from Swift and Western Express these companies are mill companies. He really would be better off to go with Wel. I know their training pay is $400 a week. My husband did fairly well with his driving test yesterday (experienced driver for 1 year), but had problems down shifting and that is only because he drove an automatic for a year. They agreed to continue to pay for his hotel room next week, while paying him to train. The pay is always going to be low for the first year for any company you go to, but Wel does pay better then most companies.
I do remember reading on this forum that student drivers have to pay $50 a week until they reach a $1000 security deposit, but after your one year is in then you get that security deposit back. I don't know if they still do that, but it would definitely be a question that I would ask the recruiter. Don't be afraid to call back and ask the recruiter some more questions, because knowledge and understanding is a powerful key in this business. Let us know what he decides, and I wish the best of luck to both of you.
