Workforce Investment.....do you have to go to school in your home state ?
Really wanna go with Watkins-Shepard in Montana. I'm in Kalifornie.
Made contact regarding WIA today........spoke to someone who did not quite have a grasp of the English language. Hope he knows what I'm talking about....
Papa T -
I believe you are required to attend school in your own state - but I admit, I'm not positive. The folks at the unemployment office will, of course, have the answer. Whether they KNOW it or can pass it along is another story, you betcha.
Take a look and see if there are any Sage Tech schools nearby that are PTDI certified. I know W&S will accept graduates (or, would back in May). You'd still have to go through their 10 day orientation - I'm not sure their on-site students do - but after that, you are in your own truck.
And now I'm waaaay out of my depth. Another member - Danc694u - is one of their drivers. He's much more likely to be correct than I am (I'm still fighting with medical at my end so I can continue the pre-employment process with W&S.)Papa T Thanks this. -

that should fly just fine. It would here, anyway

I will definately look into the program Lurch, should the need arise. I started to research truck driving as an option, when GM started talking about bankruptcy a couple of years ago, and as a way to supplement my pension until that happened. Well, I retired 7/07, and things seemed to be going smooth with GM again, and I really enjoy the retired life...who wouldn't...and just put trucking on the back burner. As they say..."history repeats itself"...and trucking is back on the table once again. GM once had a program for tuition assistance, that would had saved me $1,500 on trucking school, but they dropped that program last month. So, if GM stays afloat, i'll just stay retired if my pension isn't affected, if not, i'll be joining you out on the open road.

can I move in with you? I eat too much for my parents to support me again -
Hey Papa T
I went through on the WIA grant, to a school here in Ga, worked out really great im not under contract with anyone. I LIKE THAT PART lol. There are government plans out there that will help you for sure. I just graduated 11/13/08 have my A's went the next day out of my own pocket and took (Tankers, Doubles/Triples, Passenger) passed all three whewnow im working on hazmat. I hope to be getting finger printed tomorrow. I have already filled out the TSA application. By the way anyone in NW Georgia have a Bus I can borrow to take my passenger test with
Now another way to go to school would be contact some of the trucking companys they will send you but I think you will have a contract to them for so long. Anyway guys & gals be safe and careful see ya laterPapa T Thanks this. -
