FFE has a terminal in Rocky Mount
Melton and USA Truck are also good choices.

New driver just posted USA Truck has the "Choose your loads; self dispatch" program for drivers that have been there 6 months.

I have read about this and watched a couple of videos . Pretty cool idea for sure. I guess they do the same if you decide to go lease as well.

Community college route is the best way to go, you will get extensive training compared to these “schools” that just push you through. Good luck on your journey.

By the picture he posted, it's not much different than the carrier that "pushed me through" in fact it's near identical.

They get the classroom stuff out of the way the first week so we can concentrate on learning to drive. Starting Monday, until the completion of the class(5 weeks) it will be pre-trip, backing, shifting, driving locally as well as 40-60 miles out from the school. Not really sure how company sponsored schools work.

I would be more than happy to post the other 5 weeks of the schedule if anyone is interested.

Wow, when I went through CDL school it was $3000. That was in '09 tho. I met a few Melton drivers when I pulled for TMC. They always seemed pretty happy. Flatbed is a good choice, you get a little exercise. Generally when pulling flatbed, you unload and load just about every day. Good luck to you in the school. Just remember patience. It's a must in this industry.
