You can get 175 watt inverters that plug in to a 12 volt socket to charge the laptop as the laptop only needs 90 watts max. They sell them at truck stops. They work well too.
I asked the Werner recruiter about the APU situation. He said the newer trucks don't get them for 3 reasons: 1: They found out that it takes 13 months minimum on average to see the cost savings over idling. 2:As the APU's get older they tend to use as much fuel as idling. 3: The newest engines that are being used in their trucks are now meeting strict standards for emissions to allow them to be idled in every state including CA.
HA. Nope. I had an 07 with no APU, then an 07 with an APU, and now I have a 10 with a climacab. When they told me to pick out my new truck, nothing over an 08 had an ICE APU, and the newest ones had no APU at all.
I should have gone with the 2012 prostar with nothing on it since I haven't shut off my truck in 6 days anyway.
