I have heard that they don't take care of their trucks OTR, but I wasn't sure. I know all of our beloved Net Ops trucks are always having problems with them, they all look like they've been through the ringer.. god forbid you should have a breakdown request. If you sent a breakdown request in you can expect not to run that night unless they have a spare truck, because Breakdown Dept. is slower than Christmas. I always wondered if the OTR guys and the Trainers got all the nice trucks, and the rest of us got the "hand me down's". But I do know if there's black ice and fog, and you don't feel safe to run -- then DON'T run! Safety will do something about that Dispatcher that's hassling you about it. If they don't, then it's time to leave Werner and look elsewhere.. I know not all of the starter companies do that when it's a safety issue. I haven't had that problem yet and I work for Werner...
Keep the shiny side up and be safe out there!

I'm definitely not defending Werner. I have never worked for them and would give up my CDL before I did so. My point in my post was that this is a grown man who could have and should have said no.Ghost Ryder and stuey Thank this.

I can't believe you would actually defend Werner in this situation!!...if a company tells me to either drive the truck in that condition...I would tell them to shove the truck where the sun don't shine.driverdriver Thanks this.

The Op's is just wrong in every way shape or form. You don't accept a truck that has poo in or on the walls regardless of how much you need the job. That is a major red flag, do not pass go and collect my things and leave! No one will tell me that I have to accept a truck like that or I will get fired. I quit first.
driverdriver and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
He wasn't defending Weiner. Think about it for a minute..... If you refuse to drive the truck, the company now has grounds to fire you and put an abandonment charge on your DAC, especially if you give them that attitude. Plus you won't have a way to get home either.
Honestly I think the OP is leaving out some details. I'm thinking he's a relief/recovery driver. -
I never thought about him being a recovery driver. My company has them too of course and I hear some pretty off the wall stories the drivers have done to the trks from these recovery drivers.
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
That would certainly explain the trucks condition and why Werner wanted him to drive it.pattyj Thanks this.
-
yes it would.I jujst assumed this was a new driver at the terminal
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
i ain't no lawyer , but that sounds like werner open themselves to a lawsuit big time right there....... and i am not a sue happy guy but sometimes that is the only way to solve problems long term.........
-
that could very well be.Or maybe this op is leaving somethings out.But if it is grounds for a law suit, highly unlikely this driver will do anything. How many actully pursues going after companies.Wish more would.
