Im accident free and get my pay check every week. You dont have to worry about chains anyway since you live in "MI". All you are going see out of "MI" is north east crap anyway.

that's anything but unsafe, my company carries them, but we are not allowed to use them. If the chain law is in effect we sit and wait till they lift it. They say if you need chains to drive, they would rather u sit. we only carry them because its law in some states between certain months.

In my opinion, chains are only for getting you out of trouble, not for driving into it. -
From Oregon's web site
There are no specific dates in Oregon state law declaring when truck chain requirements start and end because no one knows when winter conditions will start and end for the varied climates throughout the state. Chains are required in Oregon whenever winter conditions exist and SNOW ZONE signs are posted advising drivers to carry or use them. But regardless of whether road and weather conditions appear favorable at any moment, truck drivers are advised to always carry chains during the Fall and Winter months in Oregon. One can never be sure when conditions may suddenly change. Enforcement officers have the discretion to issue a $160 citation for failure to carry chains.
I think the part about the $160 is a bit out dated, My understanding is, back 2011, they upped the fine to $451.00 for CMVs
I had a DOT inspections last July, and they had me pull out all tire chains to check them. I was told by DOT, have them 24/7/365 to not get cited. -
I had a DOT pull me into a scale in northern cali and he walked around to the drivers side and saw my chains hanging there and then waved me on my way.... personally chains are no big deal. its more dangerous before they throw the chain law and your driving in the snow and ice without them. dont be scared to throw a little iron.

Good greif! I've driven 2.4 million and put chains on once and I learned to drive in CO, NM, UT & WY mountains. We never chained up. I've pulled potatoes, beans and grain out of Durango and the Alamosa area when it was -20 and the snow sounded like BBs rolling across the ice. I ran from Sante Fe to Alamosa one time when the road was closed from Espanola north. No-one told me so I went, 3-4 ft drifts and did'nt chain up and I was running ety. The scale guy at Antonito asked,"how did you get here?" I said up that road and he said, "It's closed." I said tell the plows they can come on, I broke a path for them and went back to Sante Fe.
Rugerfan Thanks this. -
