I don't claim to understand the CMV laws in Canada, but I *believe* the following is accurate:
-If the DWI is 10+ years, Canada will consider you rehabilitated and should let you in.
-However, they will not permit a driver to enter Canada with TWO DWIs in their past...EVER.
Roehl won't look at anyone with 2 DWIs even if they are 20+yrs ago, since they do run into Canada.
Millis (oddly enough) doesn't care if an applicant had 2 DWIs, as long as they were quite old. Millis doesn't run Canada.
Companies seem to make up the rules as they go along, or at least expand on whats out there. It's their choice....they don't need to hire as long as there are other better qualified/clean applicants.
In Oct 2009, Millis was trying to process 250 applications a day - and they are a rather small carrier in comparison...so one must wonder what a carrier the size of Werner must be receiving..![]()

So I guess I got part of that right Rick?
Thats what I had read a few weeks ago when I looked this up, out of curiosity.. -
(2) I have never had 1 or 100 or 1/2 a bottle of beer and driven a motor vehicle. I am also not 'holier than thou' .But my indiscretions do not put uninvolved parties at risk ,like drunk driving does.
(3)There are lawyers who specialize in lawsuits against truck drivers/companies who are involved in accidents. Get one and sue Werner for not hiring you.73 FJ40 Thanks this. -

I guess Werner may not be the place to work if you have a DUI? What if you have TDA*? Does that exclude you as well? From what I have seen, Werner has plenty of drivers afflicted with TDA.

I was arrested twice for DUI before i was 20 years old, I'm mid 40's now. the first one was dropped, never went to court. I passed the breathalyzer and was arrested anyway, my lawyer talked to the prosecutor, who dropped the case. I was only 17 at the time, and the arrest was an attempt to get me to roll over on my friends, the cop wanted to know who gave me the alcohol, and I wasn't telling. The second one was a couple years later, It was plea bargained down to reckless op.
None of this stuff is on my MVR, it's old history. I've had my criminal record pulled, cost me 30 bucks, and there is nothing on it. In my opinion, the key to getting around this stuff is to simply keep your mouth shut when you are in orientation, or later on if they send you to Canada. The Canadian guy in the booth will ask you "Have you ever been arrested?" (more times than I can count, but not in the last 22 years) Answer: "No." The conversation always ends there and you go on about your way. Why volunteer information that they have no way of digging up? -
I believe that anybody for any reason that gets a DUI should have the drivers license revoked for life.
