Not so. A friend in Florida had 2 DUI's back in the 80's. In Florida it stays on your record for 75 years.
He had his own triaxle dump for several years. Sold it and ran OTR with a hotshot for a year. Now he is a company driver.

He was never convicted of DUI in a commercial vehicle. It was his personal vehicle.

But today, odds are anyone who will have to insure you won't even look at you.
BTW, Insurance regs are far more stringent then the current laws - no insurance, no job. -
Here's Werner's first reply:
We have received your recent email message directed to our Company. It has been forwarded to an appropriate person for review and possible response.
If you need immediate assistance please call.
Perhaps more will be revealed....Probably not.
Those responding "they can hire who they want," strike me as masters of the blindingly obvious, self-righteously stroking their egos. The issue isn't "could they," have an exclusion policy, it's "should they?" I'd ask you to reread what I wrote. What principle is served by a life-time ban on people who made a very common mistake years ago, but recovered from it and have avoided the problem ever since? I'm saying their policy excludes very qualified applicants, people who've had a problem, faced it, and recovered from it. I know hundreds of such people in the fellowship of recovering alcoholics in which I participate, and virtually to a person, they're trustworthy and honest -- that's part of our committment.
Are there any drivers out there who haven't had some problem at some time? Is truck driving suitable only for people who meet a purity test?
Q: How broad a test would you advocate?
A: "I don't care if it disqualifies you, just so long as it doesn't catch my particular problem."

MrMustard,I would have to agree with Jt better to tell the truth. When I went to Werner I had a PBJ which in Md is not considred a conviction, even had a letter from my attorney stating that with a copy of the statute. The first question on the job app at orientation, they ask " Ever been convicted of a crime" because of what my attorney said and what I had in print I said "No". Guess what wrong answer to Werner, after 7 wks of training and 1 week solo(I was supposed to team with my girlfriend who was still in training) they called me in onit and was told that I was "Disqualified".So here I am looking for another gig to no avail after that fiasco. So a long story short make sure you tell the truth, they will find out especially when they need to trim drivers.

Maybe when the economy picks up, ONE DWI years ago might not matter as much. Werner might also think that, you did something along time ago, which means your capable of doing that and could at some point do that again, but this time in a CMV and have the potential to cause serious damage.
There are several other carriers to choose from out here. Not all are as critical of past mistakes (presuming we call past DWIs mistakes here).
I would start with looking at a carrier that doesn't run into Canada. That will be one less thing to worry about.
People with 2 or more DWIs need to find something else for work. There are always records out there somewhere that companies (usually insurance ones) dig up. A friend of mine drove for Swift. On the application it said "HAVE YOU EVER BEEN CONVICTED OF DWI". She said NO, since it was 20+yrs before and purged off her DMV record.
6 months into her new career, Swift's insurance company found out and TERMINATED her for falsifying an application.
Gee..more than 20yrs and there is still record of that incident.
RickG Thanks this. -
I always knew I would grow up to be a "rock star" - but it never happened.
Oh well - just move on to another career.
Driving drunk is a serious matter - you should read all the stories about drivers "blackballed" for minor incidents, false reports, and other minor issues.
Like I said B4, no one is saying you can't be redeemed, or earn a living.
You just can't do it for Werner - get over it. -
You can do a background check on yourself. There are several websites where it can be had for less than $30. I had a few scrapes with the law in my late teen years, most of them involved drinking, a few bar fights that landed me disorderly conduct charges, and the one DUI arrest that was plea-bargained down. When I had my first kid I realized that my life was no longer about me and started to fly right. But here I am 25 years later, and my record is clean. None of it's there, I checked. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't volunteer any information that's not there.
