Coming in late to the discussion, I understand tmlonghorns "Death of a Salesman" argument. But I don't buy it.

The problems in every job are unique and it's useless trying to compare trucking with most every other occupation. We live in parking lots. Sure, some of us have some nice setups in our rigs, but still can't go anywhere where it can't be parked.

Like spending time with the kids, wife, friends, church. Not. Sure there is a lot you can do to be productive in a parking lot with a computer (earn a degree, etc.). I've taken classes online towards that end. But that takes money as well, for a good program. And undergraduate degrees may not be much help for an old man who has spent the last 10 years isolated from society in a truck. It is like a stigma on your resume. And I have heard words to that effect in an interview. Just stating a fact. I'm doing very well in my current state and not into the whole "down on this" side of things.

But this is really getting off-topic.

Yet, if you're coming at from tmlonghorns perspective, much more must be considered in understanding Highlander's situation at Werner.

Yep. Oh for the bad old days. A strong economy, and not enough time between loads to cool the tires off. Still don't miss it.

I had the same problems with junk trucks at Werner, that's why I was there a VERY short time.

My assigned unit 1st trip out:

Problem is most of these big mega outfits, have some kind of lobbyist in Washington representing their best interest.. That is why I went with a independent school, when I got my CDL back in the summer of 05. When people loose their jobs, and are desperate to find work, most seem to flock to the trucking industry with high expectations of earning, more money then what they were making, and at the same time see the country.. The mega carriers know this and do everything they can to exploit that just to get fresh meat behind the wheel, and then send them packing when their done..

Something to consider on giving the older truck to expirenced driver. Maybe they want him to find all the problems and get them taken care of.

Depending on whats wrong a lot of times an expirenced driver will take care of and know how to fix little things instead of tying up company resources like thier own shop or at dealer or truck stop. Get problems handled and turn the truck in for sale. Kind of like the truck just turned in.

Newbies, unless mechanically inclined will want to take truck into fix for problems leading to down truck, rescheduled loads, finding swap trucks, and new loads once the truck is fixed.

It really sucks to have 18 years in and have to put up with this kind of bull hockey and find that no one gives a rats ###.:biggrin_25512:

Highlander says thanks and #### your truck seems nearly as bad as his and in fact he said he should be giving you his condolences! :biggrin_25523:
