Hang on to training as long as you can. The pay goes up every hundred hours or so, and after about 350 hours, you'll be making more in salary than most newbies can on their own. The extra experience will help you hit the ground running, and hopefully save you a few rookie mistakes that actually cost several hundred dollars in lost miles.
Werner it is!

I've got a "critical" brokered load from CH Robinson right now. 900 miles in 3 days. AB account is gearing up for summer loads. 99% of runs will be under 400 miles, and 50/50 overnight loads. Been doing 900-1800 mile loads all winter.
I'm just glad I'll be close to Indianapolis when I get all my ducks in a row to run under my own authority. -
There's a butt load running from Akron,oh to the philly area and a mindf*ck amount from Chicago to Virginia but they are 40000+ heavy I saw what Werner is getting paid for and there's nothing to brag about. About 900 dollars for a almost 500 miles trip and delivering within 16 hours of picking up.

You see, C.L. was a driver himself. And C.L. was about as 'old school' as they come! Drivers had miles, pay was as regular as clock work, and dispatch lived in fear of the boss. The downside was that when C.L. drove regularly, drivers lived in their trucks, and kept a house for the wife and kids they might see once every couple of months or so, or at least that's how C.L. did it. And he saw no reason for his drivers to not go through the same. It was all about the paycheck.
Nowadays, I'm sad to report that C.L. is no longer running the company. It's ol' Greggie-boy who's screwing the drivers over. So my reccommendations to new rookies joining Werner is thus:
1. Pray for a decent trainer. They're few and far between.
2. Get on a dedicated account as soon as possible. Avoid Dollar General and Family Dollar if at all possible, these accounts hurt drivers. I ran General Mills dedicated in 2007, and loved it. The only reason I left was for a major increase in pay.
3. Get your experience.
4. Don't hit ANYTHING! Goes for any company you join, not just Werner. The safest drivers are the ones who take their time, and do their job right.
and finally,
5. Keep your eyes and ears open. You're rookies for a reason. You don't know crap. The best way to learn crap is to pay attention to those of us who DO know crap, and are willing to teach you about the crap we know. As various crusty old drivers have told me over the years, you learn more with your eyes and ears open, and your mouth shut!Vitamin D Thanks this. -
Sounds like you're riding the gravy train.
