I think I'd rather have a root canal done than sit through that BS.

I also am a new driver, went to Smoky Mtn Driver Inst in Sevierville TN(they are liars also but were a little cheaper liars) Werner recruiter was there a couple times during my learning time & knew the first time I listened to this A_ _hole he was full of it.I decided to go with Crete & got hired, seems like alot of what these recuiters say is common in most companies,Crete also has its bad areas, seems like the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing.I was praised for driving 11,000 miles my first month just a few days ago & here I sit over the weekend after having 3 days off for home time(I guess they thought I drove too much last month).I am at .31 & won't get a raise for a year, don't think I will hold out with giving all these hours to this company at that rate, they brag about all the miles you can get & their ins. starting up within 30 days but who can pay bills with ins.Its all about who can inpress the best, not that one is better then the other.

Guys, I think Jessejammers response to trucking is a little more common than we may realize. New drivers entering the industry have a misconception there are really big bucks in trucking..but this holds true in only a small percentage of driving jobs and also has a lot to do with ones definition of big bucks too lol. Someone who has never been around truckers and has no real understanding of what goes on can easily be mis-lead by headhunters that are allowed to come to driving schools to make their sales pitch. The man has every right to be pizsed off and we all should be at least somewhat understanding of the situation. He likely came into the industry after reading all the horsechit advertisements on the rear of trailers about the $50k a year jobs with massive home time fully expecting to do that..then getting hammered with lying out the arse recruiters at every door he knocked on with the same horsechit just reinforced those beliefs..but when the rubber meets the road and the paychecks start coming the truth is found out. Even with doing homework, the first year in this industry is quite an eye opener for most people. Yes Jesse you do have to pay your dues and one thing is critical.....keep your license clean at all costs. Get the experience you are going to HAVE to have in order to get a decent paying job with a decent company while keeping your eyes peeled and your ears open, it will be tough no doubt but unless you are one of the few lucky ones this is the apprenticeship that will have to be paid to reach your goals. Good luck to you and I hope those checks get bigger for you soon. Oh yeah one other thing, there are a LOT of drivers on here making those $300-400 a week paychecks but would never admit it.

Geez man, you are already starting out in the hole. 9 grand??? Hope you have not started school yet. There are better options than NTTS.

I have received some nice emails..thank u! also some negative nonsence..thank u as well! hopefully I gave u guys something to do for a bit. I decided not to stay with Werner. Although my dispatcher was doing a better job of taking care of me...I think that was a two way street. I was never late, maybe complained a little, but was never disrectpectful, i always realized he was not calling the shots, I drove as much as legally allowed, never wasted a minute, BUT in the long run, I needed to be home with my son..... I guess as I close my driving for now...I will say this about Werner....it really depends on where YOU come from....I come from careers that paid you MUCH more,, much much more!! and treated you differently. I was a needed employee to those companies, at least at the time. The income for the hours you spend in the truck seems ridiculous! But I met guys who were making less and treated worse!! plus I met LOTS~ of foreigners, who were just happy to have freedoms and a job. This doesnt seem to be a job where a guy who has pride in his appearence or efforts or professionalism comes into play. So is Werner all that bad?? NO. You can definitely do much worse. I had a brand new truck, decent dispatcher,( he was EXTREMELY DRY monotone dude!!) and for just starting I was getting good miles...400-500 a day?... but thats where it ended...they tried to squeez every penny back out of you. if u had any problem after 5 pm forget it...an issue on the weekend, forget it.. stuck some where no AC no place to park, no food or whatever...forget it...all too bad!! dont check ur pay or know what they owe u...u WILL get shorted. I will say I do miss the driving. and will always feel a sense of brotherhood to the trucks on the road. maybe i will take it back up when my son graduates...but right now I need to make much better money... good luck to all!!!

I work for Werner ... as a new driver i knew that i had to start somehwere and Werner gave me an in to the trucking business. I have wanted to be a trucker for a long time and finally decided to take the plunge. Now after six months its time to move on, to another large carrier who will hopefully screw me less! Look the bottom line is that you have to get your start with one of the mega carriers, they are the only ones who will take a chance on newbies. Stay safe, keep your equipment up to spec so when you roll through the scales you don't have any issues, dont have any accidents and deliver your loads on time and you will be able to move on to a real company with great equipment, miles and pay. Thats how it works boys and girls, it's called "Paying your Dues", every trucker has done it and the best are the ones who make the big bucks. Just like in every other industry out there.
Yea Werner is really hard to work for, attitude from adminstration, equipment that is just about falling apart, really low per mile pay, steering wheel holders for trainers, and a whole bunch of drivers who could care less make this place hell. It takes a lot of will to make it but you will if you are a real driver who is in this industry because you really WANT to do the job. Remember "Werner is a starter company, most of you will not be here in a year" hell that is an exact quote from the orientation instructor I had in Allentown PA!
IMHO if you are at Werner any longer than 12 months its only because you are the steering wheel holder and dam they deserve you!

JESSE, your wright there in syracuse, millis transfer go's there to weedsport and oswego all the time, work for them back in 96 to 98, left the field in 2004, burned out, but getting back in come spring of 2011, and will be going to millis, pay back then was high 30's to 45 grand depending how hold you ran, now the last couple of years have been slow for trucking companys cause of the economy, lots of people don't understand that, wright now theres still do many drivers and to many companys out there, thats why the pay sucks, but alot of newbies will be quiting this winter, low pay and home sick, next year should be an up tick, i hope
