Two years of this stuff and I'm over it myself. I'm looking for local work as a springboard to something else. Put out 5 apps today from the Pilot in Biggs. The chump change you make for the time you are gone isn't worth it.

I worked for Werner in 1998-1999, at the time I had a daughter 5 & son 2, I gave it up due to missing their lives growing up. Went back into the Navy & soon to retire. Have thought about going back into trucking & Werner was always good to me, then. Now, being on this site for 2 yrs, I am glad I won't go to them, sounds like in the last decade, things there have changed a lot. Thanks for your postings, very informative & perhaps, your experience may prevent others from going through that hardship, if so, then feel proud that you may have changed another person's life in a positive manner!

how do people think its a good paying job?? Do the math! 40,000 a year?. maybe.. but dont forget you are working 60-70 hours a week for that. Most jobs are a 40 hour work week. Driving a truck for a starter company equals about $ 6.10 an hour, which is sad considering how important trucks are to the economy. 6.10 an hour is WAY below minimum wage. A teenager working at Taco Bell probably makes more per week than a lot of truck drivers out there. Im not ########... just stating the facts.

i was driving as hard as u can by law. not wasting a minute.. at 29.5 cents a mile i was making about $500 a week, why only 500? cuase with Werner and maybe other companies,,, there were TONS of delays and miscues by Werner AND the shippers. I played around in one city for 20 hours... trying to find and empty trailer only to find out the load DID NOT exist!! i was told that happens sometimes?? what the hell...how much did i earn...000000000000000000!
U will make maybe $22,000. ur first year with Werner... divide that by 70 hour work week and u get the worst paying job out there... yes Toco bell pays better... its truly disgusting..and sadly the GOV. wants to raise the standards of the drivers!!!!!!!!!! haha.. u better raise the pay...
u get what u pay for... that is why "most' drivers look like they just got released from prison..., NOT ALL!! there are a lot of good guys out there.
But we all know there are dudes we wouldnt spend a second talking with..
like the guy who was standing on his running boards pissing out of his truck at 5 30 in the morning..I just took a job with UPS as a help making 10.50 an hour part time.. it sucks..but every night I am home and weekends too!!
lastly I do miss the truck and driving...sadly

You are money ahead doing what you are now. Being on the road is not cheap. Now you can be with your family and have a chance to make a choice for what to do next. Sometimes lifes lessons sting. You'll probably feel this one for a while but have gained some great knowledge in the process.:biggrin_25523:

Werner went to hell when the boys took over. I am really glad that I am not there any more.

Keep your head up and push on. Good luck!
