He just isn't aware of what's available. Those trucking schools only push 4 or 5 of the usual suspects. Many drivers. new and experienced, haven't even heard of some of those I listed.
Werner or Melton?

I'll buy that, but it kills me how many people actually even consider Werner
-
That's what they hear in trucking school. Werner owns Roadmaster and some other nationwide school, so they get priority on advertisements and give a discount on tuition if you sign up with them. Some schools pass out job applications for Werner on the first day of school.
Take a company like Earl Henderson Trucking; they have a guaranteed minimum weekly paycheck and start new drivers at .38 cpm. They have their own CDL school too. Trucks have Apu, refrigerator, satellite tv hookup, xm radio, seats that heat and cool. How many drivers know about all this? Roadmaster sure won't advertise that.Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this. -
@tow614 works for Big G Express so he can fill you in on that outfit and would know if you're in the hiring area.
Giuseppe Ventolucci Thanks this. -
Werner recruited out of the CDL school I attended too, think they said $.28 cpm at the time lol.
Henderson has a terminal 5 minutes from my house (Caseyville), I just never talked to them because a driver I knew went there after getting axed where I was working and sat around way too much for my liking -
Maybe they didn't have the guaranteed minimum then. That keeps the load planners hopping because they don't want to explain why they're paying a driver $798.00 when he sat most of the week.
A&R has a couple terminals in IL, Joliet and Morris. -
Not to take the spotlight away from the original post but right after a private CDL school (July) I applied to all those great companies mentioned and none of them would hire me. Was either outside the hiring area, didn't like my previous work history, or simply just didn't have 6 months experience. 4 months later and the only companies that have been in touch have been Schneider, Werner, Swift and CR England.

Virginia is in our hiring area. Especially if you are close to 81.
6 months minimum with a clean mvr.
With less than a year experience you would start at .36 cpm base with monthly mileage bonus up to .04 cpm. I get the .03 cpm bonus every month which requires over 10400 miles. Many get the .04 which requires 11400.
All trucks have Tripacs and inverters. Xm radio installed.
Trucks are Volvo and KW T680 and company just announced contract with kw to replace fleet with new T680 over the next 2 years.
You will not sit here ..... -
