You want to eat your cake and have it too.
If a company fronts you the training you should be willing to do your share in return.
It's sad that there is no sense of honor anymore in this world.
People expect their way to be paved in gold for them, with no sense of responsibility in return.FireLotus and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -

Hello Bernie Sanders and the liberal progressives

i guess i could weigh in on this. try to look for a local company first. i drove for werner for 4 months didnt like at ALL. i probably spent more time sitting around in a hotel then i did driving. it was awful and i would say absolutely do not sign a contract with them. they are a slime ball outfit. they kept me away from my wife and kid for 8 weeks. not something i ever wish to relive.
if you have a wife and/or child your going to find the lifestyle isnt going to be satisfying, at least that was my experience. your going to spend 34 hours resetting and not getting paid for it. you might have to pay for showers at $12 or $13 per shower. your going to have to eat out on the road, especially if the trainer does not have a fridge.
if you dont have kids or a wife and decide that OTR is a fit, i still would not choose werner. between the time sitting in the hotel, the poor training, and the horror stories i sometimes hear from drivers that stayed its not great. my brother-in-law drove for them. he had a few backing accidents but they fired him after he had some woman run into the side of his truck (he claims). i dont know how much truth is to the story but i have heard their safety dept tries to place blame on the driver whenever possible and their investigations are a joke.
you training is going to be mixed variety. they pay their trainers on a team basis, you get paid salary and the trainer will collect all of your miles. he will drive with you for a set number of hours, then he is going to go in the back of the truck and sleep while you drive. you wont learn much because its not in his best interest. he wants to make $$$. he will stay awake only long enough to get you on the highway and your on your own.Wade68, Rocknroller4 and OPUS 7 Thank this. -
Thanks ad356 for that info. Well there is a company nearby that runs just three or four states but heard the equipment is pretty old and they are owned by an insurance company. Guess I could try them out and at least would be nearer home.
