Hows the truck running ? ... I just signed on with Werner and will be team driving with my Father In Law while waiting for his O/O application to be finalized. We're looking at buying 1 truck each ... having his truck ran by a team while we drive my truck for a few months ... doing that will earn us a pay check off the 1st truck while earning a living off mine ... may even add more trucks and hire folks to drive for us

Got a few issues with it right now but in the Dallas shop getting worked. The truck came with a 30 day warranty so Werner will make it right. Engine still has two years left on warranty so no worries there. I've heard that other O/Os out there have small fleets running for Werner. I guess the key here is get the truck paid off quickly and hire good drivers.

Had my truck in the Werner shop in Dallas so they could fix the air system and engine random shutdown while rolling. They replaced the governor on the compressor and I have no idea what the Freightliner tech did on the engine shutdown problem. One of the fault codes was 13 which is in the low coolant sensor circuit. It's been running fine all week and now that the air compressor is not running constantly, I'm getting better fuel mileage. I'm averaging 6.7 on this last trip to Bryan, College Station, Caldwell, and Temple. I had it floored at 65 so make it home just as my 14 ran out. Still mulling over the idea of becoming a trainer but concerned about a student tearing up my truck. I guess I'll seek out a few trainers and pump them for information.

spyder become a trainer and get me out of this hotel. But if you do train students, i say the first week take it slow and make sure they get use to the truck. once they get use to the truck yall can run as a team. That becomes a win-win for both of yall.

How much extra do trainers make at Werner? I might want to do that after i get my required amount of time in.

I go to orientation on the 30th, I want to get a trainer who will drive as a team and that doesnt have much home time. I want to get that part over with sooner than later and get my own truck

rushing through the training isnt sometimes a good idea. I only been in training 2 weeks fo far but one thing i learn is that there a BIG different between school training and driving out on the road with a load. one example my trainer prove to me that trying to part from a 90 degree into a parking spot is nothing like training. you have to watch your spacing and the how the trailer swings over the tandems. he told me the different between yard driving and real driving is about quarter million dollar vehicles you have to squeeze through at 7 at night or worst 1 in the morning when your tired as hell. hit one and your not only getting an ear full from that driver but a company might let you go cause it considered a preventable accident....

The trainer no doubt has to stay on top of things. My trainer used little hand held radios for a few times until he figured out I knew what I was doing but not all students are the same. There will be a lot of observation while on line 4 I may add so the miles won't add up until the student is off curfew. Anyway, I've flown helicopters and fixed wing aircraft so I have that sixth sense about me (spacial awareness). As safety will drill you, G.O.A.L. and believe me, that has kept me out of trouble. Backing into a store is much different than a parking spot at a truck stop.

Anyway, I believe the trainers get the same rate as any other driver, the payoff is when they are able to run as a team and the trainer gets paid for all miles the truck travels. Werner has just announce a new program and it involves some sort of incentives to trainers once their students are on their own and they drive safely for a certain period of time. I didn't pay to much attention to it but it sounded like it would retain good trainers. I'm going to talk to a few trainers before I make a decision. Of course on the Dollar General, I would still get home every weekend and the student would have to stay at the motel at the Dallas Terminal.

What's Werner paying O/O these days? What kind of interest rate you get?

I'm getting 85 cents per mile plus current fuel sur-charge of 40.5 cents per mile (total:$1.255 per mile). My APR is 12.9 percent. When I fuel up at a Werner terminal I pay 3.16 per gallon. With everything deducted, I'm coming out about 200 dollars more a week than when I was running as a company driver. Of course I get priority on the long mile loads now. Our fleet managers work to give us loads that maximize the best use of our available hours versus delivery deadlines. I got three loads with a total of 13 stops last week and about 2,200 miles. I didn't get rolling until Monday night so even with the late start, not to bad.

Does Werner has theire own insurance? If you lease a truck on to them, and do you have to be incorporated before you lease with them. Thanks
