Wener does have schools, one of my students recived his CDL with a Werner school, i do not know how it works or how you get started but he told me that you have to stay with Werner for almost 4 years or so to pay it back. They will call you and offer you to pay it back right away with a discount price. You will have to call them for details. He ended up quiting on bad terms and left a truck at a drop yard and had to pay to have it picked up, now he owes Werner for the school. Think about it before you jump, Goodluck.

Werner requires at least 160hrs school time to qualify. Be very, very careful of Werner and other Driver Mill CO.'s. I'm not saying they're all bad, they're not. Just be very careful. Also, with the HONOR Programs many co's have, it seems to benefits them more than you in most cases.

Hi, I was told that the Werner school(s) had closed due to the economy, that the trainers had been let go as had a lot of the recruiters, so has that changed or maybe it never happened?

Good advice, because in the real world all those things you do at any job, good or bad, follow you on a work record.

As far as i know, I have not seen anything about them closeing any schools/letting recruiters go. With the economy, i can see the layoffs. I talked with the saftey director at the Fontana CA terminal and asked him what the new building and old building were going to used for,(in case you did not know, they are redoing and adding on the Fontana CA terminal) and he told me part of the old building is going to be a Truck School ran by Werner onsite. If you have ever been there, i don't know where the room for the incab skills part of training will be. As for the person asking about the schools, Get the money on your own(loan) that way your not tied to one place if things do not work out.

ccolvin, keep up the direction, sounds like your heading in the right one. Hopefully you'll keep the fever for life and find the joy that some of us have experienced.. There's a lot to learn.. I've been in school since 1968, and 41 years still learning.. but a got a few thing under my belt,, listen to those who want to steer and guide you in the profession,, not the complainers. We all have days that are a B--------h, when you find the perfect driving job, don't join it, it won't be perfect anymore..just strive for perfection.. When you get ready to sit in the rocker at home and the jam'n fever is gone, you will sit with a smile with a lot of good memories to reflect on. Maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to pass that joy onto another young person who can pick up where you and I leave off.. Take care and best to you .

My orientation instructor told me yesterday here in Omaha that they don't use the simulator too much any more. They used to use it just for drivers who were struggling out on the roads, but it became too costly to operate that often since lots of the electrical components are aging and it takes 1 to 2 employees just to run and oversee it. Which is unfortunate, considering it's the only one like it of its kind in the country. He also said that before the economy tanked they were planning up to 6 more of them so every driver and every student could get time on one, but those plans went out the door since they are millions each.

The thing is just like being in a truck, they have a person who can make the road condition, etc be anything they want it to be. They had a guy in it once who wasnt paying a lot of attention so the guy turned the road to lite snow, created a "situation" and cross winds... the guy "driving" the truck had a roll over. It was incredible to watch the whole thing on screens. We watched the "road" and the guy.

I dont know about your state but in Ohio you can go to "job and family services" and try to get a loan. there are other government agencies that might help but you might try them in your state. also if you are on unemployment or about to loose a job because your company is closing you may get aid. this is what i know about ohio, and not any other state. best of luck.
