1) Every local driver who trained me was professional, knowledgeable, and had his S together. While with OTR "training" it was hit or miss. And in my case it was always miss. Usually psychological problems.
So, i would like to conclude:
Trucking training in general can, at best, be considered hit or miss with the higher likelihood of miss.
a) However local trucking training has a high likelihood of being good.
b) i've found that the older the driver trainer, the better the training---usually. However, this does not necessarily apply for OTR "training."
c) Does the nature of OTR cause trainers to "lose their mind?" Or, does the OTR lifestyle tend to attract persons with dubious psychological state who would also train?
d) Some antics of my former OTR "trainers:"
Challenging other drivers to pull over and physically fight over the CB based on trival slights----"you said something bad about my home state," being "supposedly" cut off and almost run off into the ditch (when based on my observations, nothing of the sort happened). Clearly lying to management in writing about my "supposed" deficiencies/errors/attitude (not the management believed any of it.) The list goes on.
i will admit that none of my OTR trainers had a problem with hygene. However, i don't think chain smoking is a "clean" thing.
e) i would advise anyone that if it is possible to specify wether you want a trainer who smokes or non-smoker, try to get a trainer who does not smoke. Even if you smoke. This is because people who smoke are not trustworthy.
2) i won't comment on the hygene thing---it's such a personal choice. i chose to be clean not only to try to be professional, but after 2 or 3 days it just gets uncomfortable.

He couldn't go to Canada for whatever reason. He had been employed there 4 months when I was assigned to him - he left two months later. ATC Leasing (ATT) is a 'magnet' to these guys for whatever reason - thinking it might be due to the 'reclusive owner' Troha... -

Would you expound on that?
I think that bit of information was worth less than I paid for it.
From my experience, those who make unfounded blanket statements
aren't worthy of trust.
fr8monkey, Schmidtrock and LodiKen Thank this.
