While I agree with your sentiments, this is the trucking industry after all. So it wouldn't surprise me.

I see some of these real winners at the truck stops and I just shake my head. I can go a day without a shower, after that, all bets are off and I need my shower!

FWIW, I went to orientation with both May (Jan 28th) and Werner (Feb 5th), and everyone in both orientations were reasonably dressed and had a tidy appearance and no one smelled. One lady was a bit on the ragged side, had no front teeth, but her hair was combed and she didn't smell like a garbage dumpster.

But that's orientation. You really see the true colors (and odors) come out on the road. I've quit complaining about having to pull smelly trucks into the shop. Every time I did, I kept being told, "oh, that's nothing... that's not even in the top 50 worst ones that come in here". Suffice to say I'm not looking forward to encountering any of those. Then they ask me, "well, I thought you've been a driver?". Well, yeah.. but even in those dark days when I transitioned from construction/sitework driver and equipment operator to freight hauler, I could tell you my truck sure as hell never smelled like that (although I have to digress on one account.. the chicken fried steak at an Iron Skillet [Petro] restaurant not only tasted like pure ####, but left me with some of the most severe gas I've ever had in my life.. seriously, it was like something had crawled up into my ### and died in there... I was worried my intestines were rotting out... when it's below 20 out and you're still sleeping with the windows open, you know it's something ferocious) and I wasn't really prone to hanging out in anyone else's truck, so I didn't really get the exposure to these funkmasters, although there were times I'd pass by one of these steering wheel holders at a truck stop... typically as wide as two of me would've been, stained clothes, the whole nine yards.. and I'd catch their... let's just call it aroma... as they walked by.
Granted, we've probably all had times when we might've had to go for a day or two without a shower... you shut down for a night at a construction site where they're throwing up a building, and you're not going to have truck stop amenities... but the extreme some of these people take it to...

Too funny! The OP should be writing non-fiction stories. Truth really can be stranger than fiction!

i guess i am just one of the lucky ones then. my trainer showers at the minimum, every other day. usually we stop and shower once a day. but never more than every other day. his truck smells good, he has scented vent sticks up front, a scented auto release in the sleeper, even garbage bags with scented freshener stuff in them.

he brushes his teeth and uses deodorant. i do the same.

so again, I just must be one of the lucky ones. rather enjoying my experience with werner....so far.

My Werner trainer was like that but he also was an excellent trainer so I tried overlooking some things. Finally had enough and told him when he showers he needs to use soap.Everysince then he kept up on his hygiene.

When I said "like that" I meant hygenic etc. like the poster before me.
I'd have never made it with one like the original poster said!
