Werner in my opinion has become one of them if not the worst companies out there for new drivers.. you are 100% expendable and they make no qualms about it. On the DG account it is almost a sure thing that you WILL have some sort of a chargeable accident on the account, First accident (depending on severity) will almost always end up being treated as a training issue.. second accident in a short period of time (makes you so damaged that you will find it near impossible to find other driving jobs) and traps you there. I have begged many a driver to leave the account and do something less dangerous to their career.. most would never listen. They also were not able to improve their skillsets enough, and between a few hours or a few days, they were terminated and set home on the bus to figure out what their next career is going to be.

It's a fake thread. None of that happened. It's all made up.

To be fair: 17 years ago; I started my truck career with Werner. I had gotten my actual CDL on my own at a CDL school; and paid for it myself: 3800.... Then; I went to Werner and drove with a trainer on Dollar General.. I knew within a week; no way I was going to do that account: it was a definite set up for failure for new drivers.. I had a really nice, awesome trainer tho; and we talked about it. I finished up my training with her on the Dollar General account and told them when I was done with my training; nope; not staying if I couldn’t have something different to start off with until I’m more comfortable being a solo driver: best thing I ever did: I know I would have never made it long term doing that account....Puppage, Truckermania, Chinatown and 1 other person Thank this.

No offense to the OP at all with this. I understand his plight and his situation. I cut my own milk-teeth at Werner. 14 months OTR (originally assigned to one of the Dollar Accounts, but my Trainer - dedicated Purdue account - told me to go OTR to survive). 3 weeks out at a clip. I don't have anything bad to say about them as a business. I also know how to keep my ### out of trouble. I'm just unfit to live in a truck. I hate it & I won't do it. Props to you guys that can 'live' like that. Legit.
But aren't some of you all the same guys complaining on the daily about everyone that can't drive, or stay in the right lane, or merge, or turn left, or park, or fuel, or shower, or open a hood, or dress appropriately, or speak English? You put this guy in a [the color of your company] truck and you think he's going to do better or be more successful out there?
Nothing more insightful than 'the Mega's lie to you!!!!'?
It feels like gang warfare.... Drive Blue and We'll Hate You.... Drive For Us and You're the Cool Kid on The (short) Bus..... bunch of infantile bull-####... For lack of a better term it's 'amazing' how many of you guys fell right out of the womb banging 18-gears and smokin' butts blazing West on I-40, still in a diaper.... The Old Guard... Many of your values are to be esteemed. I grant. But I think all you've succeeded in doing is making the OP doubt & regret every choice up to this point, probably including joining this site with your rhetoric. Let's stop pretending this is 'the good 'ole boys club'... it's not. The guys looking for your help, not a brow-beating because he thought driving a Blue truck would get him into the industry.....
Swear to God... I'm surrounded by ineffectual people desiring to hinder every step of progress unless it benefits them...bigwallmike, Ryan423 and laaylor Thank this. -
To be even more fair, are you still there? How long did you work for them?
-
Nope: I have only been with 2 companies: I am very happy where I’m at now: it’s my work family: I stayed with Werner for almost 8 years: but; got really tired of being pushed and pushed to continue to be a trainer after doing it for almost 5 years and not wanting to do it anymore for many reasons..... I love my position with the company I’ve been with since them: they aren’t perfect; none of them are; but, it’s my work home and it works for me: the folks at our home office that I’ve developed work relationships with over the years are the best kind of people and I’m not going anywhere unless I have too...

What good is "progress" if it doesn't benefit the community?

When Werner offered you a chance to run team with an amish linebacker and be home a few times a month, why did you decline? And don't say it was because Grub had dibs.KillingTime Thanks this.

If you get a nice dispatcher/fleet manager you can get weekly hometime on the otr account. That's what I got I can go home weekly, every 2 weeks or every 3 weeks. I think it's because when they notice me wanting to leave they do what they can to keep me. That's why I got that type of hometime and also getting into a I think brand new truck today
Truckermania Thanks this.
