Got my CDL A with endorsements back in December, decided to try and find something local instead of going OTR. Been working for a local transportation company driving buses, pay was pretty good when business was up but now its slow and I need to find something more stable. Been looking into other local work but most want OTR experience, so I am planning on going out on the road. I have talked with a recruiter from Western Express that has told me I can get on without any problem and get on the Western Regional runs, but I have heard that most of their freight is in the NE so im not sure how realistic that is. Have also talked with Werner, they have also said no problem getting on, however would have to get on a waiting list for any kind of regional or dedicated. Not really sure where to go, previous work history isn't the greatest so not too many companies are interested in talking to me. No felonies, no accidents, and no drug issues. Any thoughts or advice from the seasoned & experienced drivers here?

I know someone who drives for Werner and he has a dedicated position. He got it as soon as he got off his trainers truck. He loves it! Might be worth the wait.....

If western Express could get you on the dedicated 11 west states I would jump on it... Ive never worked for them... Did you try Shamrok foods in Phoeinx for a local gig? Ive never worked for them either but have delivered there many times...

Schneider supposedly is building a new terminal in Phoenix; try them.

    Pride Transport probably hire you.

    Super Service is another.

Did you try the 3 milk tanker companies in Phoenix? Don't know the names of them, but shouldn't be hard to find.

I work for Western. I've been OTR for a year with them. I know nothing about the other companies because I've not worked for them. Although I will say you shouldn't have any issues getting hired western. And I can personally say I'm over on the west coast 2-3 times on average a month. Sometimes more. We do have regular customers in Arizona. May be worth your time in my opinion.

Stay away from Western Express. They have a bad reputation. Read up on them.

After being out here a bit and seeing what's up with them "W's," I think I'd rather go swimming in the basement of a porta-potty than either of them first two options.

There was this one poster on here a while back claiming that Western Express made him sign a letter stating "hometime is a privilege" and that they would not reward you with hometime for service failures and all that. Any truth to any of this?

Well you seem to be happy with them, if you don't mind me asking what kind of miles are you getting a week? Also from your name guessing your pulling flatbeds, I have considered doing flatbed but have been rather concerned about the tarping, strapping, & chaining but maybe its not as big of an issue as it seems? Have gotten persistent emails and calls from Melton as well that is 100% flatbed.
