They never said it was a recorded event, just that he braked too hard on a road test.

hmmm i wonder what the criteria is for a guy in the pax seat to call a hard brake?
i am sure the trainer has his whole 6 months expirience--but i wouldnt call it a hard brake unless he locked it up and i slid off the jump seat with my face imprinted into the dash
thats why i would really trust a computer as to a human for the calling of hard brake -
I am not certain of the exact definition of a hard brake, but it is something like decelerating more than 10 MPH per second. One here or there is excusable, but multiple hard brakes indicates a habit of following too close. The major reason companies care about this are law suits. Hard brakes are recorded by the ECM which becomes evidence in the event of an accident. If you are a habitiual offender and get in an accident the "victims" attorney will be all over this. I would say that a hard brake on a road test would probably disqualify you at my company. However, if you are road testing with us, the CEO will be in your cab.
Meltom Thanks this. -
yes--would have to be there to see exactely what happened--maybe it wasnt his fault ?
but then again maybe he was using the brake instead of the clutch pedal
i think i might give a bit of leeway during a road test--because of new truck and nerves--unless it was a safety thing because of carelessness -
They were good till they set him up,they must have a quota of how many have to terminated;then find any reason ,however bogus to can you.Got to make room for the new victims er recruits coming in every day. He had been team driving for 13 weeks no tickets no accidents, running hard, then when the time comes where he can make some decent $,oh your unsafe you braked too hard in the terminal Goodbye don't let the door hit you in the ash;where's our next victim?Yes I did praise Werner, but now I know the truth about them and it ain't pretty. I'm sorry for that I believed they would give him the carrot they dangled in front of him for 3 months,He ran hard for trainee pay the when the time comes for him to start making real $ they shoved him out the door.No accidents or tickets just you braked too hard in the terminal, don't let the door hit you in the ash. He's got interviews lined up I'm sure he will get a another job, hopfully better than Werner where he's not treated like the crud that's stuck to their boots.Oh and he just came in from an overnight run 10 hrs he was hungry and tired when the pencil pushers nailed him

I'm doing all the hard brake phone calls for my company and I agree with cpape. One hard brake event isn't a big deal, if you can recognize the situation that lead up the the braking event. some times there is you can't prevent the situation. In most cases hard braking events indicate that you have behaviors that are causing the events. I try to have a general safety talk with each driver that meets our criteria, deceleration of 10 mph in 1 second. Most drivers appreciate the phone call and can take something away from the conversation. There are always a few that are defiant and will fight to the bitter end stating they didn't do anything wrong. These are the drivers that worry me, if you cant even be bothered to listen to some coaching and don't think that you could make even the slightest improvements it makes me think that you are a hazard.
To each their own, I'm constantly learning new things and considering different approaches to handling issues. If I ever get to a point where I think I know everything than it's time to switch roles, or just retire. I'd suggest the same for everyone.canuck in da truck, JimDriv3r and NDBADLANDS Thank this. -
@whosedog ... i know what your son is going through .. i too have worked for werner and they are shady at times ...
here is what my experience with them was .. i was with them for 4 months .. not a problem, then they put me on a lowes dedicated out of pa.. again no problem .. all of a sudden they ask, will you train, i said NOOOO.. 3 days later i was told to go into brooklyn ny ( and yes drivers this is true so dont bother saying i got bad info when i didn't ) where you can NOT take a 53 ft trailer and a sleeper truck .. i was told by other drivers you cant, i called the local PD there and they said they wuold look away until something happned.. i refused to go to brooklyn that way and i was told to come to allentown terminal for a safety meeting where they termonated me .. their reason, i did not tell them about a minor parking ticket years ago ... guess some werner recruiters dont fully run your dac and mvr until you refuse to do something they want .. but oh well ... its over, i moved on and went back to knight and eventually left them last week for the 2nd time .....whosedog Thanks this. -
