Update: I just spoke to my son to clarify the reason my son was tested. He rolled into Omaha after driving 10 hours overnight, never been there before so he's looking for the terminal. It's nightime no traffic on the road and he's focased on a red light up ahead,he comes to a junction in the road w/ a stop sign off to one side;his focas is on the light ahead and he doesn't realise the stop sign is also for him.Security guard in the terminal sees him roll past the stop and reports him to safety. He's tired from the 10 hours overnight and hasn't eaten since the day before. Saftey puts him in a truck he's never driven before with a chatty tester who's talking to him a mile a minute like they're best friends (I'm convinced he was trying to distract him to make him slip up) Any way they go through the test and tester says you passed. 2 hours later he gets called back and the same guy that passed him says we thought about it more and decided you failed due to hard braking,My son says the brakes in the test truck are different than he's used to ,and with practise he could get used to correct braking in that truck. The tester agrees with him and says your right, we'll see if my boss agrees and lets you go with some CBT's. So his boss is in a meeting and they can't see him till the next day. My son gets put in a hotel and told to report back to the terminal next day. Next day big boss sees him and says you're fired but you can come back in 6 months and go through training again if you want. My son says WTF this is BS;they say we're sorry, here's your bus ticket home. Now I'm not trying to take sides here and remain objective here, but it seems to me that they are under orders from management to meet a quota ;and fail as many as possible to keep guys from advancing to a better pay scale. Their goal is to run trainees as teams for as long as they can,to benefit their bottom line, for his 14 weeks gone from home he grossed 3,908;averaged 279 gross per week before taxes. He would have made more $ flipping burgers and been sleeping in his own bed every night. Newbies do you want to spend your lives 24/7 living out of a truck for $279 per week? If so the blue screw is for you!

"hasn't eaten since the day before." This is not the company's fault - even when I was expediting, you could grab SOMETHING... the excuses need to stop if you're ever going to have the guy stand up on his own two feet.
It makes absolutely no sense, and I call total BS that a company would seek to ".fail as many as possible". I costs serious money to recruit a driver and get them into a seat at orientation... besides, you WANT people to move to the next level in a training company, since those guys can now become trainers.123456 Thanks this. -

Gee wonder why he might have been let go.

Ronin SOOOO VERY TRUE , on other posts Daddy keeps using WE this WE that , sounds like he is living his kids life for him.

Best thing to do at this point is to look internally. Maybe it was something he did. Try yo learn from the experience and hopefully he can apply what he learned to his future. If that makes him a safer driver than this was a good event in the grand scheme of things. If he is just going to blame werner and go on and on about how bad they suck then I'm afraid this will become a common occurrence.

No you have it ALL WRONG.
Supposedly Trucking Companies spend $ on recruiting , processing , training , testing new drivers so that the PENCIL PUSHERS in the office can have a few
and fire them afterwards.

Read post # 81 by Robertw in Discuss your favorite trucking Company. He says that Werner pushes 700-1000 recruits per week through FL,Ga,Oh,Ne,Ca,Pa,Tx,Indianapolis,Denver,Or,and Az. My guess it's not because they have 8,400-10,000 new drivers jobs or buy that many new trucks every year. They just need fresh meat for the machine. I should have known it was difficult or next to impossible to make it through that guantlet. Doesn't matter he 2 solid leads so far to check out so far, will probably have more by next week.

He,s not going to dwell on it,he will be doing interviews next week. As far as going back to Werner, like they want him to in 6 months (through the whole slave wage team driver training).

Oh and to you guys who ask why I'm on here instead of him; he has no internet for the 14 weeks of OTR,he asks me to ask you guys for help.I get a lot of good advise from you guys here and I thank you for it! -
Good luck to your son Whosedog. I just received a call from Southern Cal Transport and will drive for them locally. I think I'm going to let the over the road work go for awhile longer and stick to hourly pay and sleep in my own bed. Then again it will be in the daytime due to the fact it is a night time position. I will have the weekends off though. Like I said best luck to your son and hope he finds a creditable company to run for.

Y'know, everyone has had a bad day due to fatigue, hunger, whatever.
But these posts that drone on and on about the company being the big bad wolf and the poor student being totally and completely blameless get old very, very quickly.
Until the young man learns to shoulder at least some responsibility (and I'm being kind here), he'll never make it in this industry.
I do genuinely wish him the best of luck.FLATBED Thanks this. -

Lucky if the ARMED FORCES get that many at times
